The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Infantry Sergeant Ömer Bağra) died in a clash during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 12, 2022.
(08/121) Racist Attack in Bolu…
It is learned that 4 Syrian people sitting in a park in the central district of Bolu, were attacked by a racist group of four people saying “Why are you sitting here, get out of our country” on August 13, 2022. 4 people who were detained in relation to the attack are arrested by the court.

It is learned that Zülfü Yıldırım, a 68-year-old ill prisoner with 96% disability, died in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 1 on August 13, 2022. It is reported that the prison administration informed Yıldırım’s family that the reason of his death was falling due to a heart attack.

It is learned that Mehmet Candemir, a member of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly, died in Giresun Espiye L Type Prison on August 15, 2022. It is reported that the prison administration informed Candemir’s family that the reason of his death was heart attack.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 12, 2022 that, in Diyarbakır Women’s Closed Prison, the food given to prisoners is inadequate and of poor quality, the prisoners were paying high electricity bills and they were not given cleaning supplies to protect from Covid-19 pandemic.
(08/125) Constitutional Court Decision on Aysel Tuğluk…
On August 13, 2022, the Constitutional Court (AYM) announced its interim decision regarding the postponement of the execution and release of Aysel Tuğluk, who is suffering from dementia in Kocaeli Kandıra No. 1 F Type Prison. The court rejected the request for a postponement of the execution and release and decided to “continue the treatment of the applicant within the scope of the injunction, as well as to ensure that she is regularly examined in neurology and psychiatry outpatient clinics, and to evaluate whether the execution of her sentence should be postponed at certain intervals and her release should be based on the course and progress of the illness”.
Aysel Tuğluk was released by the court in the Kobanê case, on August 6, 2022, however she was not released from prison as she was convicted in another case.

It is learned that Ebru Uzun Oruç, the deputy chair of the Progressive Journalists Association(ÇGD) and the owner of the YouTube channel named “Sokak Kedisi”, was attacked by a group of 4 people in Istanbul on August 14, 2022.

It is learned that some of the 23 people detained in the police intervention against the commemoration held at Gazi cemetery, in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on August 13, 2022 for Ulaş Alankuş who died in a clash in Ağrı; were subjected to strip search at the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate.

It is learned that some of the 40 people detained in the police intervention against the press declaration about ill prisoners in Istanbul on August 13, 2022; were subjected to strip search at the Bahçelievler District Security Directorate.
(08/129) Police Intervention to a Commemoration in Istanbul…
The police intervened in the commemoration held at Gazi cemetery in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on August 13, 2022, for Ulaş Alankuş, a member of the Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) and the People’s United Revolutionary Movement (HBDK), who lost his life in a clash in Ağrı. The police detained 23 people including the Revolutionary Party chair Burcu Gül Çubuk, Alınteri magazine representative Mürüvvet Küçük, the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Istanbul provincial chair Deniz Aktaş, the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) co-chair Okan Danacı, by torture and ill-treatment. It is reported that Okan Danacı’s chin was broken in the intervention. 16 of the detainees are released after statement procedures while 7 people are released by the court on judicial control conditions.

The police intervened in the Justice Watch in front of Bahçelievler district office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Istanbul on August 13, 2022, held for ill prisoners. The police detained 40 people including members and executives of HDP, MATUHAYDER (Marmara Region Solidarity Association of Prisoners’ Families) and ANYAKAY-DER (Anadolu Solidarity Association for Families Lost Relatives) by torture and ill-treatment. It is learned that Cemile Karakaş, one of the detained people, were handcuffed behind her back 9 times and fainted during the intervention. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

HDP Şırnak provincial co-chair Sabuha Akdağ who was detained at the Provincial Security Directorate where she went for an official statement on August 11, 2022, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 12, 2022.

On August 13, 2022, at least 11 people including 1 child are detained in house raids in Yenişehir, Kayapınar, Silvan and Bismil districts of Diyarbakır. Detained people are: Muhsin Acar, Dilan Kartal, Abdullah Arşimet, Abbas Nakçi, Barış Nakçi, Reşat İbek, B. Ç., Ejder Dağ, Sabahattin Gökalp, Nahşi Bulut and Hasan Kayaalp.

It is learned that 9 people are detained in Adana on August 13, 2022. The names of detainees learned so far are: Mahabat Buğdaycı, İbrahim Doğan.

It is learned that 9 people including HDP central district co-chair Hasan Özek are detained in house raids in Şemdinli, Yüksekova and Derecik districts of Hakkari on August 13, 2022. Detained poeple are: Hasan Özek, Cengiz Özdemir, Remzi Taş, Servet Erbaş, Muzaffer Basan, Savaş Eren, Nejdet Metin, Şeyma Saygi, Haydar Özcan and Zeydan Cidal.

It is learned that 4 members of HDP Youth Assembly (Nurullah Pekbay, Şiyar Akti, Ferhat Azan and Şerif Sarıbulak) are detained in Sanat Street of İpekyolu district of Van on August 13, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

It is learned that the news reports about the luxury housing project of Muhittin Palazoğlu, the elder brother of Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü’s (popularly known as robed Ahmet Hodja) son-in-law, in Tuzla district of Istanbul, published on https://haber.sol.org.tr/, https://abcgazetesi.com/ and https://t24.com.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by İstanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 7 on August 12, 2022.
