The Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced on 11 September 2024 that Onur Çapan, a soldier on duty in Syria, died as a result of a gun accident.
It is learned from the news coverage of 12 September 2024 that, 3 militants died in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Hakurk area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on 4 and 24 August 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 11 September 2024 that, a police officer on duty in Hakkari had the inscription ‘Only the dead see’, dedicated to Cem Ersever, written on the motorbike he was riding.

It is learned from the news coverage of 11 September 2024 that, lawyer Aytaç Ünsal, who is kept in Edirne F Type Prison, was subjected to physical violence by gendarmerie taking him to hospital on 3 September 2024 and was threatened to death by gendarmes saying ‘We buried the bodies of people like you so many times, your place is in the grave’.
It is learned from the news coverage of 11 September 2024 that, 10 prisoners in Urfa T Type Prison, who were subjected to disciplinary proceedings on the grounds of the ‘Kurdistan’ expression in a song they were dancing the halay to, were sentenced to 1-month deprivation of communication rights and 1-month ban on visitors.

It is learned from the news coverage of 11 September 2024 that, Halk TV reporter Ferit Demir, who was following the Minister of Family and Social Services, Minister of Justice and Minister of Interior who came to Diyarbakır for the funeral of Narin Güran (8, k), who had not been heard from since 21 August 2024 and was found dead on 8 September 2024, was intervened by officials and was prevented from broadcasting during a live broadcast in front of the Governorate of Diyarbakır.

The hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Ceren Sözeri with the complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Turkuvaz Media Group, due to her article titled ‘Who made AKP lose votes’ at Istanbul Commercial Court of First Instance No 2, which was supposed to be held on 11 September 2024, was postponed to a later date due to the judge’s leave of absence.

It is learned from the news coverage of 12 September 2024 that, an investigation was initiated by Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist İsmail Arı, for his book ‘Menzil’s Vault’ and that he was called to Istanbul Security Directorate to give his official statement. It is also reported that police officers went to the office of Tekin Publishing House in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul and called Elif Akkaya, editor-in-chief of Tekin Publishing House, to the Istanbul Security Directorate for her statement through the investigation.

The first trial of the case against 15 people including Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) provincial co-chair Esma Ataş, DEM Party Party Assembly member Hebun Aslan, Pir News Agency reporter Nuray Atmaca, on the grounds of dancing halay during DEM Party’s primary election in Tunceli, started on 11 September 2024 at Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 1. The indictment demands a sentence for 15 people on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to 4 December 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 9 September 2024 that, Izmir Criminal Peace Judgeship No 4 issued a recall warrant on 29 March 2024 for 2 books, ‘The Purple Colour of Kurdish Politics’ written by Gültan Kışanak, former co-mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and published by Dipnot Publishing, and ‘Kobani’nin Kızları’ written by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon and published by Avesta Publishing House.
(09/118) TV Channels Fined by RTÜK…
It is learned from the news coverage of 11 September 2024 that, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed an administrative fine on Halk TV for the words ‘I don’t know if Bahçeli can be taken that seriously in Turkish politics, if his statements can be discussed that much’ and the presenter ‘smiling’ at these words.
