It is learned from the news coverage of October 12, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on September 19, 2022.

On October 12, 2022, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 157 workers including 6 women, 4 children and 8 migrant workers died while working in September, 2022. 1359 workers died in labour killings in the first nine months of 2022.
(10/109) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of October 12, 2022 that, the petitions of Semra Güzel, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP who was arrested after her parliamentary immunity was lifted and put in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison; and that she was not allowed in the joint activities and her fax messages were not conveyed.
(10/110) HDP MP on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against HDP Batman MP Feleknas Uca, for her declarations in 2015 and 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on October 12, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Feleknas Uca on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court rejected the demands for ending the proceedings due to Feleknas Uca being a parliamentary member, and adjourned the trial to February 7, 2023.

The trial of the case against Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, HDP co-mayor of Kızıltepe district; and Gülistan Öncü, HDP co-mayor of Savur district, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on October 11, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to January 17, 2023. Gülistan Öncü was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 26, 2019. Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was detained on December 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on December 16, 2019. Öncü and Yılmaz were released from the prison on April 1, 2021. The Ministry of Interior appointed sub-governors as trustees to Kızıltepe (on November 4, 2019) and to Savur (November 16, 2019).

The trial of the case against HDP’s Esenyurt district co-chairs Ercan Sağlam and Dilan Karakoyun, on the grounds of a poster of PKK leaser Abdullah Öcalan in the district office, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 32 on October 11, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 16, 2023.

The trial of the case against 10 people for participating in the “We Cannot Live on” press declaration of Dersim Labour and Democracy Forces held on December 17, 2021; is held at Tunceli Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 on October 11, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 18, 2022.

The final trial of the case against a person named Berivan Sağlam, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 32 on October 11, 2022. The court sentenced Berivan Sağlam to 1 year 6 months and 22 days.
(10/115) Deniz Poyraz Case…
The trial of the case against Onur Gencer, for killing Deniz Poyraz in the armed attack against Izmir office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) on June 17, 2021, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 16 on October 12, 2022.
The indictment demands heavy life imprisonment and jail sentence up to 7 years for Onur Gencer on the charges of ‘intentional killing’, ‘violation of immunity of residence’ and ‘qualified damage to buildings, premises or moveable property owned or used by a political party, a professional organization having the status of a public institution or a higher federation of such’.
It is learned that 3 members of the Women Stronger Together platform, who hung a banner on the building across the Courthouse were subjected to physical violence of the police.
It is learned that Kamuran Poyraz, sibling of Deniz Poyraz was subjected to physical violence of the gendarmerie on duty and following the quarrel the police and gendarmerie used pepper spray to intervene in the audience.
The court ruled to continue the trials at Aliağa Şakran Prison compound due to security reasons and adjourned the trial to October 14, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha48.com is banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Hatay Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on October 10, 2022.
(10/117) Cancelled Event in Istanbul…
It is learned from the news coverage of October 11, 2022 that, the “Miss Uganda Esenyurt” beauty contest, which will be held as part of the Sister Cultures Festival in Esenyurt district of Istanbul, has been cancelled by the District Governorate.
