(11/120) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 11, 2021 that, in Gümüşhane E Type Prison, wards of political prisoners have been searched with participation of riot squad police members on October 21, 2021 and 2 prisoners were subjected to physical violence and personal belongings of them were seized during the search.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 11, 2021 that, the wards are over capacity in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison.

(11/121) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 11, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

(11/122) Detained Former MP…

Behçet Yıldırım, former Adıyaman MP of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who was detained in Adıyaman on November 3, 2021, is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 11, 2021.

(11/123) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 21 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 between November 8 and 11, 2021.

On November 8, 2021, it is learned that the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has removed the authority of the presiding judge, and a judge of Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 23 was appointed to the post.

Arrested politicians and their lawyers did not join the trial held on November 11, 2021. The prosecutor demanded the court board not to accept their excuses for not joining the trial and to file a criminal complaint against them on the grounds of ‘impeachment’.

The lawyers objected the period of trials which goes on as 2 weeks of trials and 1 week of pause successively; and the court rejected the objection. The court decided to continue detention of 21 politicians and adjourned the trial to November 29, 2021.

The court has released 4 people (former Kars co-mayor Ayhan Bilgen who was replaced by a trustee, HDP’s former central executive board members Berfin Özgü Köse, Can Memiş and Cihan Erdal) at the trial held on June 15, 2021; and released 4 people (Zeki Çelik and former parliamentary members İbrahim Binici, Emine Beyza Üstün, Emine Ayna) on June 25, 2021.

(11/124) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Kibriye Evren is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on November 11, 2021. The indictment demands Kibriye Evren to be sentenced for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The court rejected to lift the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to February 24, 2022.

Kibriye Evren was arrested after being detained with 141 others through a Diyarbakır based investigation on October 9, 2018, and was released at the first trial on November 12, 2019.

(11/125) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against musician Veysi Ermiş, for the phrase “Kurdistan” in songs he sings, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 on November 11, 2021.

The court sentenced Veysi Ermiş to 1 year 6 months and 20 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and postponed the sentence.

(11/126) Prisoner on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against a prisoner, Dilan Oynaş, in Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, for participating in the hunger strike to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 15 on November 11, 2021.

Dilan Oynaş attended the trial and shared her personal information in Kurdish. It is learned that it was recorded as “The defendant did not answer the questions regarding personal information in Turkish but responded in a language which cannot be understood by the court board” in hearing minutes. It is also learned that the court decided to get a payment of 500 Turkish Liras in 30 days from Dilan Oynaş for translation fee as she demanded to make her defence in Kurdish and adjourned the trial to February 15, 2022.

(11/127) Investigation Against Actor in Istanbul…

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against actor Levent Üzümcü, on the grounds of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among public’ with his expressions in a street performance. It is learned that Levent Üzümcü made his official statement through the investigation on November 11, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 11, 2021 that, a proceeding demanding lift of impunity of IYI Party Kocaeli MP Lütfü Türkkan is submitted to Grand National Assembly.

(11/129) Removal of Banners in Tunceli…

On November 11, 2021, the banners of Dersim Labour and Democracy Platform, about anniversary of execution of Seyit Rıza, are removed by the police on the grounds of prosecutor’s instruction.

(11/130) Discriminatory Proposal of Bolu Mayor…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 11, 2021 that Bolu mayor Tanju Özcan, prepared a proposal to the city council that demands 100,000 Turkish Liras as wedding fee if one or both parties in a couple is a foreign national.

Bolu mayor Tanju Özcan stated the following in the press conference: “We do not want foreigners to get married in Bolu, settle in the city, and have children. We plan this change so that two Syrians, two Iraqis could not get married here (…) We do not want foreigners get married, settle and have children in Bolu.”

(11/131) Suspension of Execution of Security Directorate Circular Regarding Recording Voice and Image…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 11, 2021 that, the Council of State Chamber No 10 for Administrative Cases decided to suspend the execution of the circular which was issued by the Directorate General of Security on April 27, 2021 to prevent people and journalists from recording the demonstrations and protests.

(11/132) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 197 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 24,898 as of November 11, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 72,910 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 8,340,322 as of November 11, 2021.
