(05/083) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 11, 2020 that Sabri Kaya, an ill prisoner in Osmaniye T Type Prison No 2 who was referred to Adana City Hospital, was taken back to prison without being treated, on the grounds of Covid-19 pandemic. It is stated in the news reports that the doctor at the hospital said “I cannot hospitalize him, there is Covid-19 pandemic. There is no reason for him to be hospitalized” to Sabri Kaya’s relatives.

(05/084) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1280 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 11, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(05/085) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On May 11, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day, after being fined for violating Law of Misdemeanour and Public Health Law.

(05/086) Investigation Against Municipality Officer for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 11, 2020 that, an investigation is initiated against social media officer of Saray district municipality in Tekirdağ, for a social media post about commemoration of Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Aslan and Hüseyin İnan. It is reported that the officer went to Saray District Security Directorate to give official statement. It is also stated that the social media post was deleted on demand of the police.

(05/087) Investigation Against a Judge for Social Media Posts…

It is learned that Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Ayşe Sarısu Pehlivan, a judge in Karşıyaka district of Izmir and also chair of Union of Judges; for her social media post “Folk songs does not hurt anyone #ibrahimgökçekshouldlive” in Turkish, in relation to Grup Yorum member İbrahim Gökçek. It is also learned that Council of Judges and Prosecutors initiated an investigation against her.

(05/088) HDP and DBP Members and Executives on Trial in Mardin…

The case against DBP provincial co-chairs Leyla Bozkurt and Şeyhmuz Sun, HDP Party Assembly members Alaattin Semir Zuğurli and Sedat Ay, and HDP provincial co-chair Ali Sincar is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 4 on May 11, 2020. The court decided to continue detention of 5 people and adjourned the trial to June 27, 2020.

(05/089) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 55 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,114 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on May 11, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 3,841 and total number of confirmed cases is 139,771 as of May 11, 2020.

It is learned from data shared by Izmir Chamber of Medicine on May 11, 2020 that 484 health workers including 152 doctors, 2 dentists, 154 nurses and delivery nurses, 88 health officers, 16 medical secretaries, 26 technicians, 30 public officers, 6 pharmacists, 2 psychologists, 5 security staff and 1 driver, and 2 engineers in Izmir tested positive for Covid-19.

It is learned from the data shared by Diyarbakır Chamber of Medicine on May 11, 2020 that 90 health workers in Diyarbakır tested positive for Covid-19.

On May 11, 2020, ban on exit and entrance of vehicles for 24 provinces is lifted for 9cities (Adana, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Maraş, Mardin, Ordu, Tekirdağ, Trabzon, Urfa). The ban on exit and entrance of vehicles will be effective for 15 cities for 15 days.

It is declared by a presidential circular on May11, 2020 that a 96-hour curfew as a part of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic will be imposed as of May 16, 2020 until May 19, 2020.
