(03/148) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 11, 2021 that, 2 of 18 women who were detained in house raids in Istanbul, on the grounds of participating in the Feminist Night March in Istiklal street of Istanbul on March 8, 2021, subjected to strip search under custody.

(03/149) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 11, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(03/150) Detained People in Istanbul for 8 March Protests…

18 people who were detained on March 10, 2021 in house raids in Istanbul, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in the slogans chanted at Feminist Night March in Istiklal street of Istanbul on March 8, 2021; are released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 11, 2021.

(03/151) Detained HDP Executive and Other People in Urfa…

On March 11, 2021, 4 people including Hatice Göktepe, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Haliliye former district co-chair are detained in house raids in Urfa. The reason of detention is unknown.

The Communist Party of Kurdistan (KKP) Malatya provincial chair Halil Göktaş is detained in a house raid on March 11, 2021.

(03/153) MP on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on March 11, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Hüda Kaya on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ for her social media posts, and the events she participated in.

The court rejected to end the proceedings against Hüda Kaya for she has legal impunity as being elected as parliamentary once again, and adjourned the trial to July 8, 2021.

(03/154) Co-Mayor on Trial…

The trial of the case against Yıldız Çetin, HDP co-mayor of Erciş district of Van who was suspended and replaced by a trustee, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on March 11, 2021.

Yıldız Çetin joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Yıldız Çetin and adjourned the trial to April 15, 2021.

Yıldız Çetin was detained on October 15, 2019 and was arrested on October 22, 2019. The Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Erciş municipality on October 22, 2019.

(03/155) Co-Mayor on Trial in Kars…

The trial of the case against Şevin Alaca, HDP co-mayor of Kars, is held at Kars Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 11, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Şevin Alaca on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Şevin Alaca joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Şevin Alaca and adjourned the trial to April 6, 2021.

Şevin Alaca was detained on October 1, 2020 and was arrested on October 8, 2020. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Kars municipality on October 2, 2020.

(03/156) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Hakkı Boltan, on the charge of insulting the President and the Prime Minister back then, in the declaration he made about those who lost their lives during the curfews in Cizre district of Şırnak in 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on March 11, 2021.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 29, 2021.

(03/157) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Seyhan Avşar, on the charge of ‘targeting a public officer’ for her news reports “Prosecutor of Sözcü case is an ex-convict”, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 29, on March 11, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2021.

(03/158) People on Trial in Van…

The trial of the case against 28 people, for being delegates of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on March 11, 2021.

After defence hearings the court decided to lift judicial control conditions for 28 people and adjourned the trial to June 24, 2021.

7 of 28 people (Çetin Uyar, Faysal Parlak, Bazi Aslan, Hakan Demir, İbrahim Irmak, Medine Tufan, Mesut Erzengin) who were detained on March 21, 2019 through an investigation against DTK were arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on March 26, 2019. 7 people were released from prison at the trial held on November 29, 2019.

(03/159) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 15 people (Latife Buğday, Sürreya Kılınç, Nesibe Başaran, Zübeyde Adar, Selamet Demir, Sinem Güzel, Emine Erbek, Hafize Şahin, Ayşegül Yalçın, Sümanperi Akyıldız, Kumri Akgül, Zehra Doğan, Sakine Yakut, Melek Başkale, Zeliha Gün) from families of prisoners, for having a press declaration in front of Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison, to draw attention to hunger strikes in prisons which have started in 2019 to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Bakırköy Penal Court of Peace No 13 on March 11, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 14 people on the charges of ‘violating the Law on Demonstrations and Meetings’, and ‘resisting to the police’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to July 13, 2021.

(03/160) Person on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Emrah Doğan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on March 11, 2021.

The court sentenced Emrah Doğan to 11 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 8 years and 4 months on the charge of ‘threat’.

Emrah Doğan was arrested on January 18, 2019 in Istanbul. Emrah Doğan’s sister Dilek Doğan was killed by the police raiding their house in Sarıyer district of Istanbul on October 18, 2015.

(03/161) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against staff colonel Cengiz Tarım, former Ankara provincial gendarmerie commander, is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No 13 on March 11, 2021.

The court sentenced the defendant to 21 years and 8 months on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘securing and discloses information that must be kept confidential for reasons relating to the security or domestic or foreign political interests of the state’.

(03/162) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 63 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 821 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 11, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 14,046.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 29,290 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,835,989 as of March 11, 2021.
