(06/034) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 2 soldiers died and 2 soldiers were wounded in a clash between HPG militants and security forces in rural areas of Tunceli on June 11, 2019.

(06/035) Person Who Was Subjected to Police Violence in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2019 that a person who was detained in Bahçelievler district of Istanbul was subjected to physical violence of the undercover police on street. It is stated in the news reports that the person was handcuffed behind his back and was hit at the head by undercover police and all these were recorded by cameras.

(06/036) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 945 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 11, 2019 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 11, 2019, 2 people (Derviş Lermi and İlker Işık) and at 18.00 3 people (Derviş Lermi and İlker Işık) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 11, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

Academician Zeliha Gizem Sayın, is detained during passport procedures at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport on June 11, 2019, on the grounds of a warrant of the court which was issued while Sayın was abroad. Zeliha Gizem Sayın is taken to Istanbul Courthouse for statement procedures.

(06/038) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 3 academicians (Assist. Professor Zeliha Burcu Acar from Yüzüncü Yıl University, Assist. Professor Hatice Yeşildal from Anadolu University, PhD Safiye Ateş Durç from Artuklu University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on June 11, 2019. The court adjourned the trial of the case against Safiye Ateş Durç to June 25, 2019; the trial of the case against Zeliha Burcu Acar to September 5, 2019; and the trial of the case against Hatice Yeşildal to September 18, 2019.

The case against Assist. Professor Ö.A. from American University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 on June 11, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to July 11, 2019.

The case against Assist. Professor Melih Çelik from Middle East Technical University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on June 11, 2019. The court decided to send the case to Ankara Heavy Penal Court on the grounds of lack of venue.

The case against Assoc. Professor Yıldırım Şentürk from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 on June 11, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to July 11, 2019.

The case against PhD student Semih Savaşal from Yıldız Technical University for the same reason is held on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 35 on June 11, 2019. The court adjourned the trial to October 24, 2019.

(06/039) The Constitutional Court Decision on Berkin Elvan…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2019 that, the Constitutional Court has concluded on the individual application of Berkin Elvan’s family. Berkin Elvan was wounded due to a gas canister fired by the police on June 16, 2013, during Gezi Park protests in Okmeydanı neighbourhood of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district; and died in hospital on March 11, 2014. The Constitutional Court rejected the application for violation of right to live and violation of ban on ill-treatment and stated the following: “In order to accept an individual application, it is not sufficient that the applicant claims to be victim or sufferer but it is necessary to prove being victim or sufferer as showing direct or indirect effect of the violation and to convince the Court on being victim or sufferer”.

(06/040) Decision of Impunity for the Sexual Assault of the Police Officer…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2019 that, the disciplinary proceedings of Ankara Police Directorate against the police officer S.S., on the charge of sexually assaulting Merve Demirel during the police intervention against a protest of TAYAD members in Ankara on February 16, 2019; is resulted in impunity decision.

The indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against S.S. on the charge of ‘sexual assault by misusing the influence derived from his office’ was accepted by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 29.

(06/041) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 11, 2019, 33 people are detained in operations covering 25 cities through an Ankara based investigation against Land Forces personnel.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2019 that, a knife was stuck in the door of the house of a person named Reis Boz. It is reported that Reis Boz was one of the citizens who talked about Kurdish voters’ attitude for Istanbul mayoral elections on a street interview.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2019 that, Felicity Party (SP) chair Temel Karamollaoğlu’s Passport was cancelled.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2019 that www.nuceciwan23.com website of Nuçe Ciwan News Agency is banned to access by Information and Communication Technologies authority (BTK). Thus, access to the website of Nuçe Ciwan News Agency is banned to access for 34 times so far.
