(07/122) Prisoner Who Lost His Life…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that Mehmet Ali Yaşa, a prisoner with cancer, who was released from Malatya T Type Prison on February 16, 2024, upon his lawyer’s appeal for a stay of execution for 6 months, died in Finland where he went for treatment.

It is learned that on July 11, 2024, Timur Sevi, the chair of Hakkari Yüksekova Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly, who was attacked by anonymous people on July 10, 2024, lost his life in hospital.

(07/124) Armed Attack in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2024, that 2 cafes in the Sur district of Diyarbakır were attacked by anonymous people with guns and sound bombs. It is also stated in the news reports that one of the cafes belongs to the Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Türkan Elçi and other cafe owners were threatened before the attack and reported the situation to the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that Necdet Öztürk, a prisoner in Kırşehir High-Security Prison, went on a hunger strike on July 10, 2024, demanding to be transferred to the corridor with political prisoners.

It is learned that the appeal made on July 12, 2024, to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s family and tutelary along with the families and tutelary of Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

On July 11, 2024, LGBTI+ rights activist Iris Mozalar, who was detained in a house raid on July 10, 2024, on the grounds of a social media post she made about the racist attacks against Syrian refugees/asylum seekers in Kayseri, was arrested by the Criminal Peace Judgeship on the charge of ‘inciting the public to hatred and hostility’.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that the detention period of journalist Sadık Topaloğlu, who was detained in Istanbul on July 10, 2024, was extended for 24 hours on July 11, 2024, and a confidentiality order was issued for the case. It is also reported in the news that Sadık Topaloğlu’s friend Mehmet Savaş was also detained on the same date.

Eser Tüz, a member of Revolutionary Party, who was detained in a house raid in Istanbul on July 11, 2024, on the grounds of violating the house confinement order against him, was arrested and taken to Istanbul Metris Prison.

1 person named Yusuf Bilgiç who was detained in house raids in the Nusaybin district of Mardin on July 10, 2024, was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ on July 11, 2024. 1 person named Mevlüde Bilgiç was released on judicial control conditions.

On July 11, 2024, Zülküf Atay (60, m), a cancer patient, was detained in the Dicle district of Diyarbakır on the grounds that the execution postponement period of 6 years and 3 months prison sentence given by the court in 2019 has expired.

(07/132) People Detained and Arrested in Istanbul…

1 of the 7 people who were detained in house raids in Istanbul on July 9, 2024, was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ on July 11, 2024. It is learned that 6 people were released. The names of the arrested and released people could not be learned.

(07/133) Journalist on Trial for Social Media Posts in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist and writer Ercan Aktaş due to ‘insulting the President’ through 3 social media posts he made in 2015, was held at Istanbul Küçükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance No 15 on July 2, 2024. The court decided to dismiss the case on the grounds that the 8-year statute of limitations had expired.

(07/134) Party Executives on Trial in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2024, that the indictment against Çınar Altan and Berna Çelik, former Izmir provincial co-chairs of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who are still under arrest, was accepted by Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 13. The indictment demands a sentence for both of them on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The first hearing of the case will be held on October 4, 2024.

Çınar Altan and Berna Çelik were arrested on October 9, 2023.

It is learned from news coverage of July 11, 2024, that the 10th Trans Pride Week Exhibition Collective’s exhibition ‘Dön-Dün-Bak: The History of Trans Movement in Turkey’ was banned by the Beyoğlu District Governorate with a notification sent to Depo Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that the X (Twitter) account of ‘Özgür Yurttaş Haber’ online newspaper was banned from access by the Gümüşhane Criminal Peace Judgeship.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that 3 news reports on https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr, https://www.sozcu.com.tr, and https://halktv.com.tr about the allegations that a Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP went on pilgrimage in a private jet belonging to the owner of a food chain, were banned from access by Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No 6 on July 11, 2024, on the grounds of violation of personal rights, and the content was ordered to be deleted.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2024, that 2 news reports and 1 social media content about Turkish Airlines (THY) press consultant, which were published on https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr and https://www.odatv.com, were banned from access by Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No 9 on July 11, 2024, on the grounds of violation of personal rights.

It is learned that the content on https://artigercek.com, https://haber.sol.org.tr and https://m.haberturk.com about the food chain Simit Sarayı was banned from access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by the Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No. 3 on July 11, 2024 and the content was ordered to be deleted.
