(12/090) DEM Party Executive Who Lost His Life and Another Person Injured in an Armed Attack in Şırnak…
It is learned that on December 11, 2023 in the Şenoba rural area of Şırnak’s Uludere district, 4 people, including village guards, blocked Ahmet Gün, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Şenoba Municipality Council Member and party executive, and his son Abdurrahim Gün’s car with firearms. In the attack, Ahmet Gün lost his life and Abdurrahim Gün was wounded. It is reported that one of the village guards who perpetrated the attack surrendered to the gendarmerie, while the others were not found.

On December 11, 2023, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan went to Bolu Afghanistan Youth Social, Cultural and Solidarity Association and had the police officers remove the signboard of the association. Özcan made the following statements on the issue: “As long as I am in office, no one in Bolu can or will hang such signs without our knowledge. I will not allow Arabic signs to be hung in this city and I will not allow temporary asylum seekers to come together in this way. I am already against them coming together. If the Governorate Associations Desk has given permission to this association, why are we fighting? I will not keep such signs here, no matter who gives permission. No one can hang signs in Bolu without our knowledge. Those who hang it, those who allow it, should come and ask me for the sign.”

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who started his speech at the budget negotiations of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) with a greeting in Kurdish, was told by TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş: “Mr. Bakırhan, as the Parliament, we would like you to explain what you said in Turkish. This is the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Turkish will be spoken here, and since our official language is Turkish, we expect it to be spoken in Turkish. On behalf of our friends, we ask you to explain it in Turkish.” It is also stated in the news reports that Tuncer Bakırhan’s Kurdish remarks were censored in the records.

On December 12, 2023, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) district co-chair Remziye Bayhan was detained in a house raid in the Nusaybin province of Mardin.

Zafer Party Kayseri provincial chair Hacı Ali Demirkaya and Samandağ district chair Suphi Yıldız were detained on December 11, 2023, on the grounds of “insulting a section of the public” in their social media posts and “publicly disseminating misleading information about the internal and external security, public order and public health of the country with the sole purpose of creating anxiety, fear or panic among the public, in a way to disrupt public peace”. It is learned that Demirkaya’s house was searched and some digital materials were seized.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that Mustafa Bor was detained in a house raid in the Orman neighbourhood of the Yüksekova district of Hakkari on the grounds of a ‘denunciation’ and was taken to Yüksekova District Security Directorate.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that 5 people were detained in house raids in Istanbul on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The names of the detainees could not be learned.
(12/097) DEM Party MP and Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against DEM Party YSP Şırnak MP and journalist Ayşegül Doğan on the allegations of ‘establishing and leading an illegal organization’ based on her meetings and interviews with Democratic Society Congress (DTK) executives and events she attended continued on December 11, 2023 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9. The court ruled to suspend the trial of Ayşegül Doğan due to her “legislative impunity” and to lift the judicial control measure.

The trial of the case against Semra Güzel, former Diyarbakır MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), who was detained on September 2, 2022, after her impunity was lifted, and was arrested by the court on September 3, 2022, continued on December 11, 2023, at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22. The court decided to continue the detention of Semra Güzel and adjourned the trial to February 7, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that 2 people with finalized prison sentences were arrested in Konya.
