(12/129) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 11, 2019 that Yıldız Çetin, co-mayor of Erciş district of Van, is transferred from Van T Type Prison to Osmaniye T Type Prison under coercion. Yıldız Çetin was detained on October 15, 2019 and was arrested on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on October 22, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 11, 2019 that wards in Gebze Women’s Closed Prison were raided and searched by riot police and gendarmerie squad and personal belongings of prisoners were seized during the search.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 11, 2019 that in Kayseri Bünyan T Type Closed Prison both prisoners and their families were forced to strip search before and after visits and prisoners who reject to it were subjected to physical violence of the wardens.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 11, 2019 that prisoners in Elazığ Prison No 1 were taken to infirmary only once in two weeks, food given to them is inadequate, rights of communication, sports and cultural activities were limited and prisoners are subjected to disciplinary punishment because of “Kurd” and “Kurdistan” words in their notes and writings.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 11, 2019 that prisoners in Maraş Türkoğlu T Type Prison who were on hunger strike to protest ill-treatment and right violations since November 25, 2019, have ended their strike on December 2, 2019.

(12/131) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1128 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 11, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 11, 2019, 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Merve Demirel) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 11, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(12/132) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Ankara Women’s Platform in front of Ankara Courthouse on December 11, 2019, before the first trial of the case against Hasan Bilgili, Hüseyin Şenyurt and Serkan Durmaz on the charges of ‘sexual assault’, ‘deprivation of freedom by use of violence’, ‘threat’, ‘destroying evidence’ on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 31. The police detained 3 people and prevented press from recording the press declaration. Detained 3 people (Aysun Gençtanır, Betül Koca and Büşra Gerçek) are released on the same day.

(12/133) Detained Journalist and HDP Executive in Ağrı…

It is learned that journalist Aziz Oruç and People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Doğubayazıt district co-chair Abdullah Ekelek were detained on Doğubayazıt-Ağrı roadway on December 11, 2019. It is reported that a person named Muhammet İkram Müftüoğlu was also detained in a house raid in Doğubayazıt district.

(12/133) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

2 of 8 people who were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır on December 6, 2019 are arrested on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on December 11, 2019. The names of arrested people are: HDP Diyarbakır provincial executive Mehmet Sait Demir and former provincial executive Mehmet Nesim Gültekin). 6 people (HDP Sur district co-chair Zülfikar Odabaşı, Arif Akay, Naşide Akbulut and 3 more people) are released on judicial control conditions.

(12/134) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that 17 people are detained on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’, in house raids in Bağlar, Kayapınar, Dicle, Lice, Hani and Kocaköy districts of Diyarbakır on December 11, 2019. The names of detained people known so far are: Ferman Nergiz, Harun Oyunlu, Adem Nazlıer.

(12/135) Detained People in Istanbul…

It is learned that 6 people are detained in house raids in Istanbul on December 11, 2019. It is learned that the reason of detention is money transfer to prisoners on hunger strike. Detained people are: Şerafettin Uymaz, Sait Uymaz, Nilüfer İlhan, Engin Yeşilyurt, Vacettin Güler and Pınar Ceylan.

(12/136) Detained People in Mardin…

It is learned that at least 8 people are detained in house raids in Mardin on December 11, 2019. Detained people are: HDP Mardin co-chair Salih Kuday, Mardin Medical Chamber chair Derya Etem, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) delegate Abdullah Akikol, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Mardin co-chair Hasibe Mengirkaon, KESK member Mustafa Benli, TJA spokesperson Aysel Erol, Neda Alper and Emel Oran.

(12/137) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 18 lawyers for having a protest about curfews in Cizre district of Şırnak, on September 15, 2015 in Tünel Square of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on December 11, 2019. The charges against lawyers are ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘opposing to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to March 3, 2020.

(12/138) Co-Mayors and Other People on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against Mehmet Fatih Taş and Fatma Ay, co-mayors of Kulp district of Diyarbakır, and HDP district co-chair Mehmet Abidin Karaman, Kulp Municipality Civil Works Director Şener Aktaş, Mehmet Emin Ay and Kulp district council Yücel Çete and Ümit Fidan, on the charges of ‘killing on purpose’, ‘disrupting the integrity and unity of the country’, ‘intentional killing by causing fire, flood, destruction, sinking, bombing or by using nuclear, biological or chemical weapons’ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on December 11, 2019. Mehmet Fatih Taş, Fatma Ay, Şener Aktaş and Mehmet Emin Ay were detained through the investigation after bombing attack on September 12, 2019 in Kulp district where 7 people died and were arrested on September 16, 2019. The court decided to release 4 people on judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to March 2020.

The final trial of the case against Hakan Ata, former member of Supreme Military Court is held at Penal Department No 9 of Supreme Court on December 11, 2019. The court sentenced the defendant to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Turgay Öztoprak, former member of Supreme Military Court is held at Penal Department No 9 of Supreme Court on December 11, 2019. The court sentenced the defendant to 12 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
