(04/095) Person Died by Gendarmerie Fire in Çanakkale…

It is learned that 1 person named Süleyman Cabir, who was injured in a quarrel that took place in Civler village of Merkez district of Çanakkale on April 2023, died by the fire opened by the gendarmerie came to intervene in the quarrel. It is also reported that 2 people were injured by the physical violence of the gendarmerie. It is stated in the news reports that 1 gendarmerie specialised sergeant was arrested, and 3 members of the family (Yavuz Cabir, Yücel Cabir and Ömer Cabir) were arrested on the charges of ‘attempt to intentional killing’ and ‘resisting to gendarmerie’.

Lawyer Zilan Leventoğlu who went to the village, stated the following to the press: “Süleyman Cabir comes home as he was injured at the arms, and his wife Aklime Cabir, thinks that the quarrel would get worse, and calls the gendarmerie. But the gendarmerie uses disproportionate force to intervene. One family member was hit at the head with the gunstock, another one has a fracture at toes. The house was shot randomly, which did not hit anyone. As these were happening, Süleyman Cabir was aimed and shot in the stomach by the sergeant. Gendarmerie has recorded the intervention but the moments when they were using violence were not involved. The police watched the footage, but the place of violence were not covered, only the parts where the father tries to intervene saying ‘Do not beat my sons’ and was shot were involved.”

(04/096) Labour Killings…

On April 11, 2023, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 130 workers including 3 women, 3 children and 8 migrant workers died while working in March, 2023. 463 workers including 37 women, 5 children and 24 migrant workers died in labour killings in the first three months of 2023.

(04/097) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 11, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(04/098) Gendarmerie Intervention to a March in Urfa…

The gendarmerie intervened in the march to protest the solar power plant to be constructed in Kadıköy rural neighbourhood of Viranşehir district of Urfa on April 11, 2023 and detained 3 people including the local administrator.

(04/099) Detained People in Tekirdağ…

It is learned that 10 people were detained in Tekirdağ on April 11, 2023 on the grounds of the slogans chanted and the red-green-yellow scarfs used in the Newroz celebration on March 19, 2023. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/100) Human Rights Defenders on Trial in Van…

The trial of the case against former Van-Hakkari Medical chamber chair and HRFT physician Hüseyin Yaviç and HRFT Van Center secretary Sevim Çiçek, on the grounds of “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” is held at Van Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on April 12, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to September 18, 2023.

On October 23, 2021, doctor Rümeysa Berin Şen lost her life in a traffic accident in Ankara. The Turkish Medical Association has organized nation-wide press declarations to commemorate her, but the police have intervened the one that held at Medical Faculty of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University and detained HRFT physician and former Van-Hakkari Medical Chamber chair Hüseyin Yaviç and HRFT Van Center secretary Sevim Çiçek.

(04/100) Journalist on Trial in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against Jinnews reporter Nazlıcan Yıldız is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 21 on April 11, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Nazlıcan Yıldız on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. Nazlıcan Yıldız attended the trial and made her defence. The court decided to release Nazlıcan Yıldız and adjourned the trial. Nazlıcan Yıldız was detained on February 6, 2023 and was arrested by the court on February 7, 2023.

(04/101) Journalists on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The indictment of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office against 22 people including 20 journalists was accepted by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 4 n April 12, 2023. 22 people were detained on June 8, 2022 and 16 journalists were arrested by the court on June 16, 2023. Arrested journalists were: Aziz Oruç, Safiye Alagaş, Serdar Altan, Mehmet Ali Ertaş, Ömer Çelik, Neşe Toprak, Mehmet Şahin, Zeynel Abidin Bulut, Elif Üngör, Remziye Temel, Suat Doğuhan, Lezgin Akdeniz, İbrahim Koyuncu, Abdurrahman Öncü, Ramazan Geciken and Mazlum Güler.

(04/102) CHP Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu, for saying “We will send a dictator out of this country through democracy” is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on April 12, 2023. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded acquittal of Canan Kaftancıoğlu. The court adjourned the trial.

(04/103) People on Trial in Antalya…

The trial of the case against 8 people including 1 arrestee is held at Antalya Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on April 11, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 8 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘preventing the right to education’. After defence hearings the court decided to release the arrestee and adjourned the trial to June 2, 2023.

(04/104) Person on Trial in Mersin…

The final trial of the case against Osman Şiban, who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment after being detained in Çığlıca hamlet of Çatak district of Van on September 11, 2020; is held at Mersin Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on April 11, 2023. The court sentenced Osman Şiban to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(04/105) Administrative Investigation Against Doctor…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 12, 2023 that, Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate launched an administrative investigation against family physical Sosin Fisli, on the grounds of going without permission to Adıyaman for participating in search and rescue activities after the earthquake.

(04/106) Erhan Görür Davası…

The trial against lieutenant Y. E., regarding the death of Erhan Görür on June 14, 2020 at the Iranian border of Başkale district of Van by the fire opened by the security forces, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on April 11, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Y. E. on the charge of ‘reckless killing’. The court rejected to charge the defendant with ‘intentional killing’ and adjourned the trial to April 18, 2023.

It is learned that anonymous person or persons attacked on the Green Left Party (YSP) election campaign office in Menemen district of Izmir on April 12, 2023 which caused material damage at the office.

It is learned that the news reports about the President’s former executive assistant published on https://www.krttv.com.tr, https://t24.com.tr, https://www.medyaradar.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on April 5, 2023.

It is learned that the article of journalist Barış Terkoğlu published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr website is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on April 5, 2023.

It is learned that a social media post of CHP Istanbul MP Özgür Karabat about Turkish Radio Television and the news reports about it published on https://www.evrensel.net and https://www.birgun.net websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on April 11, 2023.

(04/109) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 11, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,789 of them were identified and given to their families, 39 children were in the hospital, 79 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 22 children could not be identified.
