(07/092) Lawyer Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Izmir…
On July 12, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of July 12, 2025 that, a lawyer named Beliz Han was subjected to physical violence after the police raid to her client’s house in Izmir.
It is reported that some people including a pregnant woman were subjected to physical violence of the police after the raid.
It is learned that lawyer Beliz Han filed a criminal complaint on July 14, 2025, regarding torture and ill-treatment she was subjected to.
(07/093) People Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of the Police in Istanbul…
It is learned from the news coverage of July 14, 2025 that, 10 people including 1 pregnant woman and 1 child, who were listening Kurdish music in their cars in Istanbul on July 13, 2025, were detained by physical violence after a quarrel with the police. While the woman and child were released on the same day, 8 people were released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on July 14, 2025. It is stated in the news reports that the police used pepper spray and hit the woman on her stomach although she stated that she was pregnant. It is stated that the woman had an emergency delivery in the hospital and the baby was kept in intensive care due to blows.
(07/094) Prisoners whose Release was Adjourned by Prison Administration and Observation Board…
On July 11, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of July 11, 2025 that, the release of Salih Erdem, a prisoner in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2, who completed the execution of his life sentence, was adjourned for the 2nd time by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK) on the grounds of “lack of remorse”. It is not known for how long the release of the prisoner was adjourned.
On July 12, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2025 that, the release of Kenan Yanen, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2, who completed the execution of his life sentence, was adjourned for the 3rd time by CİGK decision on the grounds of “lack of good behaviour”. It is not known for how long the prisoner’s release was adjourned.

On July 13, 2025, the police intervened the petition campaign launched by Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in Kadıköy district of Istanbul demanding “Turkey Get Out of NATO, NATO Get Out of Turkey” and detained 17 people.

On July 13, 2025, gendarmerie intervened the people protesting the quarry in Bozlu neighbourhood of Defne district of Hatay and detained 6 people. 2 people were released on the same day. 4 people are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on July 14, 2025.

5 of 6 people including Özgür Kabadayı, Republican People’s Party (CHP) elected mayor of Şile district of Istanbul and municipality executives who were detained on July 10, 2025, are arrested by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on July 14, 2025 on charges of ‘bribery’, ‘extortion’ and ‘bid rigging’. The names of the arrested people are: Özgür Kabadayı, Oğuz Kaçmaz, Tuncay Tolga Özçakmak, Ali Şafak, Evren Buçhan. 1 person is released on judicial control conditions.

Aslan Özdemir, Editor-in-Chief of Leman Magazine, was detained on July 11, 2025 at Istanbul Airport, where he arrived from France, as part of an investigation initiated due to a cartoon published in the magazine. Aslan Özdemir was arrested by the criminal court of peace on July 12, 2025. The number of people arrested through the investigation initiated due to the cartoon in question became 5.

Academic Balkar Selçuk Bağlar, who was detained at the police station where he went to give official statement through an investigation against him for his social media posts, is arrested by the criminal court of peace on the charge of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among public’ on July 11, 2025.
(07/101) Detained Municipal Administrators and Other People in Istanbul…
8 of 10 people (Bulut Aydöner, Fatih Yağcı, Hüseyin Yurddaş, Kadir Öztürk, Murat Or, Mustafa Bostancı, Sabri Caner Kırca and Ümit Polat) who were detained on July 9, 2025 within the scope of the investigation against IBB, including municipality executives On July 11, 2025, they were arrested by the court. 2 people (Zafer Çimen and Salih İlhan) were released on judicial control conditions.

It is learned that Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the charge of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information to the public’ on the same day, against CHP Chairperson and Manisa MP Özgür Özel, for his speech at his party’s rally in Antalya on July 11, 2025.

The trial of the case against Zafer Party Chairperson Ümit Özdağ for his remarks on the President of Religious Affairs continued on July 11, 2025 at Ankara 14th Criminal Court of First Instance. The indictment demands sentence for Ümit Özdağ on the charge of ‘insult’ and a ban on politics. The court adjourned the hearing to a later date.
(07/104) IBB Mayor on Trial…
The trial of the lawsuit filed against 7 people including IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the grounds of a tender held when İmamoğlu was the Mayor of Beylikdüzü Municipality, continued on July 11, 2025 at Istanbul Büyükçekmece 10th Criminal Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the trial to October 24, 2025.

The final trial of the case against journalist Furkan Karabay, on the grounds of insulting the President in his social media posts, was held at Istanbul 74th Criminal Court of First Instance on July 11, 2025. The court sentenced Furkan Karabay to 10.500 TL judicial fine.

The trial of the case against BirGün reporter İsmail Arı, upon the complaint of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Mersin MP Levent Uysal, continued on July 10, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on charges of ‘insult’ and ‘slander’. The court adjourned the hearing to January 13, 2026.

On July 13, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2025 that the website and 2 social media accounts of Exodus, a movie about July 15 coup attempt, were banned from access by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 5 on July 4, 2025. It is reported that the social media accounts were made invisible from Turkey.
