(09/084) Bar Association Executives on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and 10 members of the executive board continued on September 9-10, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26, based on their social media posts about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin who lost their lives in Northern and Eastern Syria. The indictment demands sentence for Bar Association executives on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’. The court adjourned the trial to January 5, 2026.

The final hearing of the case against journalist Ahmet Güneş is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 on September 11, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Ahmet Güneş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court acquitted the journalist.
Ahmet Güneş was arrested on January 20, 2025 and released on February 4, 2025.

The trial of the case against journalists Esra Solin Dal, Mehmet Aslan and Erdoğan Alayumat continued on September 11, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25. The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the hearing to November 20, 2025.
Esra Solin Dal, Mehmet Aslan and Erdoğan Alayumat were arrested on April 26, 2024 and Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25 released them on May 21, 2024.

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök continued on September 11, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5. The indictment demands sentence for Abdurrahman Gök on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to November 25, 2025.
Abdurrahman Gök was detained in Diyarbakır on April 25, 2023 and arrested on April 27, 2023. The journalist was released at the hearing of the case against him at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on December 5, 2023.

The trial of the case against former Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for his social media posts continued on September 10, 2025 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 35. The indictment demands sentence for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on the charge of ‘repeatedly praising crime and criminal’. The court adjourned the trial to January 6, 2026.

The trial of the case against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-Chair Hatice Deniz Aktaş, Ebru Yiğit, Nurcan Güllübudak and Mert Unay continued on September 10, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14. The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Hatice Deniz Aktaş on house confinement and adjourned the trial to October 16, 2025.
Hatice Deniz Aktaş was arrested on January 24, 2025.

The trial of the case against 8 people including Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) FMC member Adnan Özcan and Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Sultangazi district co-chair Erol Tunç, continued on September 10, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The indictment demands sentence for 8 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the trial to October 15, 2025.

The trial of the case against 110 people for participating in the protests against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor started on September 10, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 61. The indictment demands sentence for 110 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to October 31, 2025.

The first trial of the case against September Devrim Altepe, a member of Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF), started on September 10, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 25. The indictment demands sentence for Eylül Devrim Altepe on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Eylül Devrim Altepe and adjourned the trial to a later date.
(09/093) Person on Trial in Tunceli for Social Media Posts…
On September 10, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 10, 2025 that İ.Ş., a branch manager at National Education Directorate in Ovacık district of Tunceli, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in a case on Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 2, on the grounds of his social media posts; and the judicial control measure of ban on leaving the country was lifted with the verdict. It is also stated in the news reports that İ.Ş. was dismissed from duty during the trial.
(09/094) Police Officer on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The retrial of the case against police officer H.A. on the charge of ‘causing death by negligence’ in the case filed at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 11 for causing the death of Cihan Can, continued on September 10, 2025 after the judicial fine of 21.200 Turkish Liras was reversed by Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals. The court adjourned the hearing to December 22, 2025
Cihan Can died due to being hit by a police car driven by H.A. on Turgut Özal Boulevard in Diyarbakır on December 27, 2019.
(09/095) Seized Television Channels, University and Other Companies…
On September 11, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of September 11, 2025 that 121 companies of Can Holding, including Habertürk, Show TV, Bloomberg television channels and Istanbul Bilgi University, were seized through an investigation initiated by Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the allegations of ‘establishing a criminal organization’, ‘smuggling’, ‘fraud’ and ‘money laundering’ and the companies were transferred to Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF). It is reported that 4 people are detained through the investigation.

2 concerts of Manifest, whose members were subjected to an investigation on the grounds of ‘indecent act’ and ‘indecent exposure’ for the concert they gave in Istanbul on September 6, 2025, in Konya on September 20, 2025 and in Trabzon on October 14, 2025 are cancelled.
Manifest band announced on September 11, 2025 that they canceled all concerts they were going to give as part of their Turkey tour.

It is learned that 3 social media posts about the police blockade of Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Directorate are banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 7 on September 9, 2025.
