It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2022 that, 4 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 30, 2022.

(10/094) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2022 that, 3 prisoners (journalist Abdülkadir Turay, Hamdullah Öz and Yusuf Erat) who were transferred from Mardin E Type Prison to Erzincan L Type Prison were subjected to physical violence in the transfer vehicle.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 11, 2022 that, 3 prisoners (Uğur Taşdeviren, Hüseyin Osmanpur and Hüseyin Aydın) in Kilis L Type Prison started an indefinite hunger strike to demand an end to right violations.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 11, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(10/097) Police Interventions to Protests in Hakkari, Diyarbakır and Urfa…

45 of 57 people who were detained by the police intervening in the march in Diyarbakır on October 9, 2022, on the anniversary of the day PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan was taken out of Syria; are released by the court on October 10, 2022. It is learned that 12 people including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial co-chairs Zeyyat Ceylan and Gülistan Atasoy were released by the court on judicial control conditions on October 11, 2022.

4 people (Ömer Kıstak, Hatice Göktepe, İbrahim Damdan and Serhat Uka) who were detained by the police intervening in the march held for the same cause in Urfa on October 9, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on October 10, 2022.

HDP Iğdır MP Habip Eksik’s leg has been broken as a result of the physical violence of the police intervening in the march held for the same cause in Hakkari on October 9, 2022 and Hakkari Governorate’s Office has stated “The parliamentary members in the group threw themselves to the ground during the brawl in order to give the perception that they were beaten by our officers and that excessive force was used” on the subject. The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) chair and the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı stated the following: “The bone fracture in doctor Habip, cannot happen as a result of throwing oneself on the ground, a serious force must have been applied! We call it torture!”.

(10/098) Detained People Through Antalya Based Investigation…

On October 11, 2022, 13 members of the Free Students’ Initiative and the Revolutionary Socialist Federation (DESOF) are detained in Antalya (11 people), Van (1 person) and Istanbul (1 person). The reason for detention is unknown. The names of detained people learned so far are: Metin Encü, Sipan Satıç, Göksu Berfin Biter, Serhat Göregen, Ali Bütkül, Mir Hasan Yıldırım, Botan Artuç, Mustafa Aktaş, Fevzi Korkmaz and Zerrin Korkmaz.

16 people who were detained on the grounds of events they participated, in house raids in Izmir and Manisa through an Izmir based investigation on October 7, 2022 are released on October 10, 2022 provided that 9 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

(10/100) Detained Person in Rize…

On October 10, 2022, Çağlayan Bozacı is detained after his speech at the commemoration in Rize for his father Osman Turan Bozacı who has lost his life in October 10 Ankara Massacre. Çağlayan Bozacı is released by the court with a ban on leaving the country for 3 months on October 11, 2021.

(10/101) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 40 people who have been detained by the police in Kadıköy district of Istanbul as they gathered to participate in the 20th Feminist Night March on the Istiklal Street of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on March 8, 2022; is held at Istanbul Kartal Penal Court of First Instance No. 13 on October 10, 2022. It is learned that the journalists and other people who came to follow the trial were not allowed in the courtroom on the grounds of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to April 3, 2023.

(10/102) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Demokratik Modernite magazine executive editor Ramazan Yurttapan and editor Haydar Ergül, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President in an article published in the magazine’ is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on October 11, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to February 21, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist İsmail Arı on the grounds of sharing the personal data of the Turkish Red Crescent Society chair is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 58 on October 11, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to October 27, 2022.

(10/104) Person on Trial for Social Media Post…

The final trial of the case against a person named O. T. for he “shared a photograph of drinking alcohol at the Night of Power” is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 57 on October 10, 2022. The court sentenced O. T. to 3 months and 2 days on the charge of “inciting people to hatred and hostility and insult” and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(10/105) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 14 people were detained in Manisa on October 10, 2022.

(10/106) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on October 10, 2022 that 40 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 22,729 between September 19-25, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared on October 11, 2022 that 24 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 23,116 between September 25-October 2, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 101,203 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,919,638 as of October 2, 2022.
