(10/179) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2018 that 4 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Qandil area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on March 21, 2018.

(10/180) Lynching Attempt in Denizli…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2018 that 5 Syrian people were detained through an investigation on child abuse in Kale district of Denizli; and that almost 500 people gathered around court house and attempted to lynch the detainees. It is reported that 30 Syrian families were evacuated from the district for security reasons and were taken to another district.

(10/181) HDP Executive was Attacked in Bursa…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2018 that People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Bursa provincial executive Cem Çekil was attacked by a racist group of 10 in Üniversite neighbourhood of Bursa on October 9, 2018. It is learned that Cem Çekil had a medical report evidencing the physical violence and made an official complaint to Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2018 that Figen Şahin, Çiğdem Şakar and Emine Kocaman from Balıkesir Burhaniye Prison were subjected to threats and insults of the gendarmerie at the hospital where they were taken. It is stated in the news reports that the gendarmerie soldiers said ‘We will unload the guns on you, we will kill you outside, I will kill all the Kurdish soldiers here, open the doors and execute them!’ as a threat to the prisoners.

(10/183) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for 701 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on October 11, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on October 10, 2018, 3 people (Mahmut Konuk, Erdoğan Canpolat, Gülnaz Bozkurt and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Gülnaz Bokzurt) were detained.

Thus in total 6 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on October 10, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(10/184) Police Intervention into Commemoration in Van for October 10 – Ankara Massacre…

The police intervened into the press declaration in Feqiye Teyran Park, organized by Confederation of Public Employees Union (KESK) to commemorate 103 people who died in October 10 – Ankara Massacre; and detained 16 people including HDP provincial co-chair Ümit Dede. The names of detainees are: Ümit Dede, Bedri Yamaç, Mesude Demir, Gürsel Yamaç, Şerif Ateş, Sehar Ataş, Emin Yılmaz, Murat Atabay, İbrahim Özkan, Seyfettin İtah and Hamit Aker. It is learned that the detainees are released the same day.

(10/185) Police Intervention into Commemoration in Mersin for October 10 – Ankara Massacre…

The police intervened into the press declaration in Balıkçılar Pazarı area, organized by Community Houses (Halkevleri) to commemorate 103 people who died in October 10 – Ankara Massacre; and detained 5 people. The names of detainees are: Abdullah Kahan Biket, Zarife Akbulut, Ozan Alış, Alican Gümüş and Elmas Koç.

(10/186) People Detained in Diyarbakır…

23 of 121 people including journalists and politicians who were detained through a Diyarbakır based investigation on October 9, 2018 are released on October 10, 2018. It is learned that 98 people are still at Diyarbakır Police Headquarters. The names of people released are: Neslihan Karacadağ, Leyla Tekdağ, Engin Karabayiğit, Şehmus Karayıl, Muazzez Canpolat, Nalan Özaydın, Veysel Özekti, Fuat Özdemir, Habibe Ekinci, Halise Yavuz, Pınar Sıraç Kalkan, Ruken Koyun, Ayşe Koyun, Necla Tanrış, Naci Tanrıkulu, Hanım Biçimli, Ruken Akçan, Lamia Kumral, Emel Özgen, Besra Aslan, Selam Taş, Vahit Doğrul, Zehra Özdemir.

(10/187) Detention in Şırnak…

It is learned that 1 person (Mahmut Metin) is detained in a house raid in Kumçatı town of Şırnak’s central district on October 10, 2018. The reason of detention and where Mahmut Metin was taken is unknown.

(10/188) DBP Party Assembly Members is Detained in Adana…

Halit Şaşmaz, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member is detained at Adana Courthouse where he was to provide official statement. Şaşmaz’s house was raided by the police on October 9, 2018. It is learned that Halit Şaşmaz is taken to Adana Police Headquarters Anti-Terror Department however the reason of detention is unknown.

8 people are detained in house raids in Izmir on October 10, 2018. It is learned that the reason for detention is ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at the funeral service on October 7, 2018 in Buca district of Izmir, organized for Teslim Demir, one of the founders of Communist Workers’ Party of Turkey (TKİP). It is reported that the detainees are taken to Izmir Police Headquarters Anti-Terror Department. The names of detainees are: Birol Kutoğlu, Kardelen Yoğungan, Hasan Benli, Atakan Aytekin, Fatma Alökmen, Ekin Güçlü, Uğur Acar, Şenol Akdağ.

1 person (Ülkü Doğan) is detained in a house raid in Istanbul on October 10, 2018. It is learned that the reason for detention is ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at the funeral service on October 7, 2018 in Buca district of Izmir, organized for Teslim Demir, one of the founders of Communist Workers’ Party of Turkey (TKİP). It is also learned that Ülkü Doğan will be taken to Izmir.

1 person (Şinasi Aydemir) is detained in a house raid in Gebze district of Kocaeli on October 10, 2018. It is learned that the reason for detention is ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at the funeral service on October 7, 2018 in Buca district of Izmir, organized for Teslim Demir, one of the founders of Communist Workers’ Party of Turkey (TKİP).

(10/192) Trade Unionist is Detained in Bursa…

Dilek Gültekin, general secretary of Automotive and Metal Workers’ Union (TOMİS) is detained in a house raid in Bursa. It is learned that the reason for detention is ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ at the funeral service on October 7, 2018 in Buca district of Izmir, organized for Teslim Demir, one of the founders of Communist Workers’ Party of Turkey (TKİP). It is also learned that Dilek Gültekin will be taken to Izmir.

(10/193) Detentions in Samsun…

It is learned that 5 people (4 Iraqi and 1 Syrian) are detained in house raids through “ISIS operation” in Samsun on October 10, 2018. It is learned that the detainees are taken to Samsun Police Headquarters.

(10/194) Medical Chamber Executive is Prevented from Travelling Abroad…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 10, 2018 that Ali İhsan Ökten, former chair of Adana Medical Chamber and executive board member is prevented from travelling to Italy to attend an international convention when his passport was seized at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on October 9, 2018. It is stated in the official letter issued that Ökten’s passport was invalidated on February 20, 2017.

(10/195) Person is Arrested for ‘Insulting the President’ in Tekirdağ…

It is learned that 1 person (T.Ö.) is detained on October 10, 2018 in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ for ‘insulting the President’ on social media and arrested by the court on the same day.

(10/196) The Person on Trial for ‘Insulting Atatürk’ in Ankara…

The final trial of the case against Safiye İnci, on the charge of ‘insulting Atatürk’ in a social media post is held on October 10, 2018 on Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 28. The court sentenced Safiye İnci to 2 years and released her on verdict. Safiye İnci was arrested on July 22, 2018.

(10/197) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 6 academicians (Professor Naz Çavuşoğlu, Research Assistant Can Soylu, Professor H. K. A, Assoc. Professor Buket Türkmen and Assist. Professor Gülsün Güvenli from Galatasaray University and Professor Gençay Gürsoy, retired from Istanbul University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on October 10, 2018. It is learned that the court board asked Gençay Gürsoy, regarding that he was one of the former chair of Turkish Medical Association, whether he is aware of the declaration ‘War is a public health problem’ made by Turkish Medical Association, and his opinion on the declaration in terms of content. The court adjourned the trials of the cases against Gençay Gürsoy, Naz Çavuşoğlu and Can Soylu to December 11, 2018, the trial of the case against Buket Türkmen to December 13, 2018, the trials of the cases against H.K.A. and Gülsün Güvenli to February 1, 2019.

The separate cases against 2 academicians (Assoc. Professor Ömer Turan from Bilgi University and PhD Begüm Özden Fırat from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) for the same reason on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 30 is held on October 10, 2018. The court adjourned two trials to February 1, 2019.

(10/198) Journalist on Trial in Muş…

The case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Seda Taşkın, on Muş Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on October 10, 2018. Seda Taşkın joined the trial via sound and vision system from Sincan Women’s Prison. It is learned that Seda Taşkın’s lawyers stated lawlessness of the case against Seda Taşkın based on her journalism activities and “anonymous reports against her”. The court sentenced Seda Taşkın to 3 years and 4 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and to 4 years and 2 months for ‘aiding and abetting an illegal organisation’.

(10/199) Journalists and Parliament Member on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Enis Berberoğlu, former executive editor of daily Cumhuriyet newspaper Can Dündar and Ankara representative Erdem Gül, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14, for publishing the footage of MIT (National Intelligence Service) trucks stopped in Adana and Hatay on January 19, 2014, is held on October 10, 2018. It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office demanded travel ban for Enis Berberoğlu and the court accepted the demand. The court adjourned the trial to February 6, 2019.

(10/200) Teachers on Trial in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against 73 teachers for 1-day strike of ‘We will defend peace against war’ is held on October 10, 2018 on İzmir Torbalı Penal Court of First Instance No 3. The case was opened when Torbalı Sub-governorate made an official complaint based on allegation of ‘disrupting education’, against 73 members of Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) who went on a 1-day strike on December 29, 2015. The court acquitted 72 teachers and decided to continue proceedings on 1 teacher (Helin Kubilay) abroad.

1 former teacher (Nazım S.), dismissed by a state of emergency who was detained in Osmaniye is arrested by the court on October 10, 2018.

14 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 13 cities through a Trabzon based investigation on October 10, 2018.

The final trial of the case against 1 person (Şenel Somuncu) on Tokat Heavy Penal Court No 1 is held on October 10, 2018. The court sentenced Şenel Somuncu to 18 years 10 months and 24 days for ‘leading an illegal organisation’.

(10/203) Curfew in Lice…

On October 10, 2018, Diyarbakır Governorate lifted the curfew on 15 villages and 25 hamlets of Lice district which was announced as of 06.00 on October 4, 2018. The curfew is lifted in following villages and hamlets: Şenlik, Birlik, Abalı, Erginköy, Tuzlaköy, Çeper, Daralan, Duruköy, Güçlü, Örtülü, Saydamlı, Bayırlı, Yamaçlı, Kıralan, Dernek villages; Elmadere, Ağılçık, Akçapınar, Ayaz, Şakan, Boyluca, Dahlık, Alikahya, Hacımusabey, Kutlamış, Vilu, Arpacık, Karadere, Sivritepe, Körtan, Körha, Seyrek, Silkito, Sumaklı, Zıraht, Acımeşe, Mengüsi, Puneyn, Çalıbükü, Kijikbadem hamlets.

On October 10, 2018, Diyarbakır Governorate lifted the curfew on 8 villages and 17 hamlets of Hani district which was announced as of 06.00 on October 4, 2018. The curfew is lifted in following villages and hamlets: Kaledibi, Akçayurt, Topçular, Y. Turalı, Kalaba, Uzunlar, Serenköy, Kırım villages; Başaklı, Güzelce, Taşburun, Karapilyari, Mezartarlası, Sıraevler, Horsel, Çay, Damlatepe, Uysal, A. Turalı, Gürbulak, Veziri, Aka, Karmen, Mazılı, Çağıl hamlets.
