(05/065) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2021 that 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Derare area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 9, 2021; and 1 militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Gare area on May 9, 2021.

The Ministry of National Defence declared that 1 soldier (Murat Nar) who got wounded during the military operation in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, lost his life in hospital on May 9, 2021.

(05/066) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned that the group of lawyers from Diyarbakır Bar Association, Human Rights Association Diyarbakır branch, Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Diyarbakır branch and Civil Society in the Penal System (CİSST) who went to Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 3 to visit a prisoner, Kurbani Özcan, are not allowed in the prison for it was a non-business day. Kurbani Özcan was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers which resulted in finger bone fracture.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2021 that, Murat Baran, a prisoner in Nevşehir E Type Prison was subjected to verbal violence of the prison director.

(05/067) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on May 10, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Nursel Tanrıverdi and Hüseyin Kütük). Detained people are released after the statement procedures on the same day.

(05/068) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2021 that, an investigation is launched against journalist Baransel Ağca, for publishing autopsy report of Yeldana Kaharman, a Kazakh woman who was found dead in a suspicious way, in Elazığ on March 28, 2019. Elazığ Public Prosecutor’s Office has decided non-prosecution on the investigation of Yeldana Kaharman’s death, on October 16, 2019.

(05/069) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 282 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 1,734 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 10, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 13,604.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 43,381 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,044,936 as of May 10, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2021 that, 8 prisoners tested positive for Covid-19 and 3 of them are in severe condition in Mardin E Type Prison; and 8 prisoners tested positive for Covid-19 in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison.
