It is learned from the news coverage of March 10, 2026 that, a refugee/immigrant named E.K. lost his life due to the fire opened by security forces to a group of people who allegedly entered into Turkey on March 8, 2026 in Oymaklı rural neighbourhood of Özalp district of Van, close to Iran-Turkey border. It is learned that 2 soldiers who were taken into custody by the prosecutor’s office are released.

On March 11, 2026, 19 people including former Mayor Turgay Genç are detained through an investigation against Döşemealtı Municipality of Antalya due to ‘irregularities and forgery of official documents’.

Nurullah Efe Ankut, Chairperson of People’s Liberation Party (HKP) who was detained in Istanbul on March 11, 2026, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’, is released by the criminal court of peace on the same day on judicial control conditions of house confinement and ban on leaving the country.

The trial of the case against journalist Zafer Arapkirli on the grounds of a social media post continued on March 10, 2026 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 23. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charges of ‘inciting the public to hatred and hostility’ and ‘publicly spreading misleading information’. The court adjourned the trial to March 27, 2026.
(03/056) Filmmaker on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against filmmaker Rojhilat Aksoy at Diyarbakır Criminal Court of First Instance No 22 started on March 10, 2026 due to his animated film “The Birth of Aurora” about the 1915 Armenian Genocide, which was screened in Diyarbakır in 2024. The indictment demands Rojhilat Aksoy to be sentenced for ‘publicly degrading the Turkish nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the judicial organs of the state’ under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code. The court adjourned the trial to April 6, 2026.
(03/057) People on Trial in Istanbul…
On March 10, 2026, the first trial of the case against 36 people who were detained during the police intervention against the 11th Istanbul Trans Pride March in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on June 22, 2025, started at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 12. The indictment demands 36 people to be sentenced for violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations. Transgender individuals who testified at the hearing stated that they were detained and subjected to torture and ill-treatment during detention and in custody. The court decided to issue a compulsory appearance order for 4 people including 1 lawyer; to lift the ban on leaving the country for 3 people; to reject the demand for return of confiscated phones; to reject the demand for filing a criminal complaint against police officers regarding allegations of torture and ill-treatment and adjourned the trial to March 12, 2026.
