(03/061) Municipal Administrators and Other People Detained in an Istanbul Based Investigation
On March 11, 2025, 34 people including municipality employees and executives are detained in house raids in Istanbul, Samsun, Bursa and Izmir through an Istanbul based investigation on the allegations of ‘financing an illegal organization’.
It is learned that former Maltepe Mayor Ali Kılıç was called to testify as “victim” and former Şişli Mayor Hasan Hayri İnönü and former Şişli Deputy Mayor Abdurrahman Emir Sarıgül were called to testify as “tank” through the investigation.

Writer Hasan Polat was detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport on March 10, 2025, on the grounds of a warrant issued against him within the investigation against the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP).
(03/063) Life/Environment Defender on Trial in Muğla…
On March 10, 2025, the final trial of the case against environment/life defender lawyer Remzi Kazmaz, on the grounds of preventing the meeting organized by Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urban Planning and Climate Change in Güvercinlik neighbourhood of Bodrum district of Muğla on July 21, 2020, and insulting officers on duty, is held at Bodrum Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court acquitted Remzi Kazmaz.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against writer Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör due to a social media post she made was held on March 11, 2025 at Istanbul Anadolu Criminal Court of First Instance No 91. The court sentenced Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör to 1 year 2 months and 17 days for ‘insulting the President’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör was detained on January 30, 2025 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace on January 31, 2025. Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör was released at the hearing of the case held on February 24, 2025.

The first trial of the case against journalist Ayşenur Aslan, for her remarks in a TV program, started on March 11, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14. The indictment demands sentence for Ayşenur Aslan on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to May 6, 2025 after defenses.

It is learned from news coverage of March 11, 2025 that 13 proceedings demanding lifting of impunity of 9 parliamentary members of parliament are submitted to Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In his speech on March 10, 2025 regarding the signature campaign titled “Change the Constitution, protect the family” launched by the union, Ali Yalçın, Chair of Memur-Sen, made the following discriminatory and phobic statements “Some groups funded by perverted global lobbies reject biological sex and impose genderlessness. By promoting homosexuality, they normalize the perversion they call gay marriage and try to destroy the family, which is a moral structure.”
