(03/095) Extra Judicial Claim in Urfa…

It is learned that Mehmet Aslan, who was claimed to be the perpetrator of the incident in which 2 police officers died in Haliliye district of Urfa on March 10, 2022, died in the operation of special task force in the rural Kaynaklı neighbourhood on March 11, 2022.

(03/096) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Adana…

It is learned that a person (Eyüp Şendur) was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police raiding a house in Seyhan district of Adana on March 10, 2022, and was injured due to that.

Eyüp Şendur’s sibling stated the following: “The police broke into the house without warning. They broke all the doors, said ‘Get down and do not make a noise’, pointed a gun at me and stepped on us. My father said ‘Do not step on us’ to the police and the police insulted us and Eyüp reacted against that. And the police hit him on the head with the butt of the gun and broke his head. Eyüp was detained in blood.”

(03/097) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 10, 2022 that 5 prisoners (Ramazan Çeper, Hüseyin Aydın, Enver Baysal, Hakan Adıgüzel and Hüseyin Özmen) in Edirne F Type Prison were transferred to Ankara Sincan Prison under coercion.

(03/098) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 11, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(03/099) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on March 10, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(03/100) Detained City Council Member in Adana…

Ibrahim Kocaman, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) city council member in Ceyhan district of Adana who was detained on the grounds of ‘financing an illegal organisation’ is released after statement procedures on March 11, 2022.

(03/101) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

10 of 16 people who were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır on March 4, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on March 11, 2022. 1 person (Selahattin Şipek) is arrested on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. 5 of the detained people were released on judicial control conditions on March 7, 2022.

(03/102) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against journalist Sedef Kabaş, for her expressions in a television programme, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on March 11, 2022.

It is learned that only 2 journalists were allowed in the courtroom. After defence hearings the court sentenced Sedef Kabaş to 2 years and 4 months on the charge of ‘insulting the President’. The court acquitted Sedef Kabaş on the charge of ‘insulting a public officer’ and decided to release her.

Sedef Kabaş was detained and arrested by the court on January 22, 2022.

(03/103) Journalist on Trial in Izmir…

It is learned that the final trial of the case against journalist Sultan Eylem Keleş, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ at Izmir Penal Court of Peace No 2 is held without her and her lawyer’s presence on March 10, 2022. The court sentenced Sultan Eylem Keleş to 1 year 2 months and 17 days and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(03/104) Journalist on Trial in Mardin…

The first trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ahmet Kanbal, on the grounds of insulting the Interior Minister on social media, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 1 on March 11, 2022. The court decided to acquit Ahmet Kanbal.

(03/105) Newspaper Employee on Trial in Urfa…

The trial of the case against Hamdullah Bayram, an employee of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 11, 2022.

The indictment demands sentence for Hamdullah Bayram on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 14, 2022.

(03/106) Publisher on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Publisher Azad Dal, through the investigation on DTK, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 10, 2022.

After defence hearings the court sentenced Azad Dal to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Azad Dal was arrested on June 26, 2020 and was released on July 18, 2020.

(03/107) People on Trial in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 10, 2022 that, the 5 months of sentence given to 90 people for participating in a protest, was reversed by Izmir Regional Court on January 31, 2022. The retrial will begin on July 6, 2022. The protest was organized by Izmir branches of Education and Science Workers’ Union (Egitim-Sen) of Confederation of Public Employees Unions (KESK) and several Alevi associations and was held on February 13, 2015 in Konak district of Izmir, where police intervened and detained 90 people by using physical violence.

(03/108) Investigation Against Journalist in Mardin…

It is learned that Mardin Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ahmet Kanbal on the grounds of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’, and that Ahmet Kanbal made his official statement to the Provincial Security Directorate on March 10, 2022.

(03/109) HDP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Beritan Yaşar, Party Assembly member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 11, 2022. The court sentenced Beritan Yaşar to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(03/110) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 140 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 29,492 as of March 10, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 96,094 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,488,635 as of March 10, 2022.
