On July 11, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of July 11, 2025 that prisoners in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison were forced to be examined in handcuffs and to be searched inside their mouths.
(07/090) Person on Trial in Tekirdağ…
On July 10, 2025, the case against Mısra Öz, who lost her son in the train crash in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ on July 8, 2018, is held on Tekirdağ Çorlu Penal Court of First Instance No 3 for the statement she made after the trial of the case about the crash. The indictment demands sentence for Mısra Öz on the charge of ‘insulting a public officer for his/her duty’. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to November 27, 2025.
(07/091) Journalists and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against 7 journalists (Gülistan Dursun, Hayri Tunç, Enes Sezgin, Osman Akın, Can Papila, Pınar Gayıp, Serpil Ünal) and 2 other people, for the press declaration in Istanbul on December 21, 2024, about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin who lost their lives in Northern and Eastern Syria, continued on July April 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24. The indictment demands sentence for 9 people on the charges of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to October 2, 2025.
7 journalists (Gülistan Dursun, Can Papila, Pınar Gayıp, Serpil Ünal, Hayri Tunç, Muhammed Enes Sezgin and Osman Akın) were arrested on December 21, 2025 and released on January 31, 2025. At the first hearing, the court issued a decision of non-jurisdiction for Zeynep Kuray, Yadigar Aygün, Mahsun Sağlam, Pelin Laçin and Yağmur Filiz.
(07/093)Journalist and Other People on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final trial of the case against 29 people including journalist Sadık Araz and relatives of Mehmet Şirin Kocakaya who lost his life during the curfew in 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on July 10, 2025. The court sentenced 22 people including Sadık Araz to 2 months and 15 days each on the charge of ‘opposing to Provincial Administration Law No 5442’. The court acquitted 7 people.
(07/094) Investigation Against Journalist in Hakkari…
It is learned that Hakkari Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against journalist Hividar Önver for participating in the press declaration about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin’s deaths in Syria, and that Hividar Önver gave his official statement at Yüksekova District Security Directorate on July 10, 2025.
(07/095) Yusuf Akın Case…
On July 10, 2025, the final hearing of the retrial of the case against soldiers K.E.O., S.T., B.Y., Y.E.K., D.G., K.E.O., S.T., B.Y., Y.E.K. and D.G. in connection with the death of civilian Yusuf Akın and injury of Mehmet Eren during a military operation in Nusaybin district of Mardin on December 20, 2011, was held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court ruled not to sentence the defendants.
In the case against 5 soldiers, the court had acquitted them. The Constitutional Court ruled that Yusuf Akın’s right to life was violated and sent the case file to Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 1 for retrial.
(07/096) Prisoners on Trial in Erzurum…
The trial of the case against 5 prisoners (Cihan Gökalp, Hikmet Ataman, Hüseyin Atak, Metin Yılmaz and Ramazan Kaya) in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No 2 is held at Erzurum Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on July 8, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for prisoners on the charge of ‘damaging public property’. It is learned that the interpreter provided for prisoners who will make their defense in Kurdish is insufficient. It is also reported that the judge interrupted the defense statements of the prisoners saying “I find what they said sufficient”. The court decided to prepare a new interpreter and adjourned the hearing to October 3, 2025.
(07/091) Suspended Mayor in Adıyaman…
On July 8, 2025, Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere was released on house arrest and was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior on July 10, 2025.
