The final trial of the case against Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member, on the grounds of her statements to a news channel, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 24 on January 11, 2023. The court sentenced Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı to 2 years 8 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and decided to release her.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 10, 2023 that, the political prisoners in Mersin Tarsus Women’s Prison were prevented from participating in collective activities, and the number of books per prisoner is limited to 10. It is also learned that 1 prisoner was transferred to another prison under coercion, on the grounds of the expressions in a telephone call.

The trial of the case at Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No. 31 regarding the dismissal of the central council members of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) is held on January 10, 2023. It is learned that the prosecutor of the investigation did not attend the trial. After defence hearings, the court adjourned the trial to February 8, 2023.

The final trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, on the grounds of insulting the President in his declarations, is held at Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No. 16 on January 10, 2023. The court sentenced Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to pay 50,000 Turkish Liras for non-pecuniary damages.

The final trial of the case against CHP Istanbul provincial chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu, on the grounds of insulting the Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 40 on January 11, 2023. The court decided to acquit Canan Kaftancıoğlu.

The final trial of the case charging 40 people including journalist Sena Dolar and Enes Sezgin, who were detained by the police intervening the press declaration of dismissed Sinbo workers in Avcılar district of Istanbul on April 27, 2021, with ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’, is held at Istanbul Büyükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance on January 10, 2023. The court acquitted 40 people.
