(04/062) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the ‘Male Violence Tally Sheet’ published by Bianet, at least 24 women and 10 children were killed by men across Turkey in March 2025. The statement also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 59 women, harassed 20 women, abused 15 children and forced 56 women to sex work.

(04/063) Person Died in Kars Due to Fire Opened by Specialized Sergeant…

On April 10, 2025, it is learned that a person named Yakup Aydın was shot to death by a specialist sergeant named S.K. in Kağızman district of Kars. It is reported that S.K. was arrested by the criminal court of peace on the charge of ‘intentional killing’.

Yakup Aydın’s uncle Yunus Aydın stated the following in his statement to the press “Yakup is sitting unaware of everything. Meanwhile, the specialist sergeant is watching him. Just as Yakup was about to leave the café, the specialist sergeant came up to them. First he throws a punch. Then there is a brawl. Employees intervene. Then the specialist sergeant takes out his gun and shoots. First he shoots towards his head. That bullet doesn’t hit him. But then he shoots him in the chest.”

(04/064) No Answer to the Application for Meeting with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 10, 2025 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa in order to visit PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(04/065) Police Intervention to a Party Event in Istanbul…

On April 10, 2025, the police intervened the members of Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) who gathered for a forum in Gülhane Park in Fatih district of Istanbul and detained 47 people including children. 41 people were released after statement procedures at the police on the same day. 6 people are released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on April 11, 2025.

(04/066) Interventions and Detentions to Protests Against Detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 10, 2025 that 10 people who supported the demonstration in Kazankaya village of Aydıncık district of Yozgat to protest arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, with their tractors, were fined 993 Turkish Liras each.

(04/067) Detained Journalist in Istanbul…

Journalist Engin Belli was detained on April 10, 2025 in Istanbul on the allegation of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information to the public’ based on a news report he published on the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Sultangazi district chair. Engin Belli was released by the criminal court of peace on the same day with a ban on leaving the country and judicial control conditions.

(04/068) Co-Mayors and Other People on Trial in Mardin

The final trial of the case against 33 people including former co-mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Februniye Akyol and former co-mayor of Artuklu Municipality Emin Irmak is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No 3 on April 10, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 33 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court acquitted 25 people including Februniye Akyol and Emin Irmak. The court sentenced 8 people (Abdülmelik Selçuk, Baran İlhan, Hafize Aymelek, Abdürrahim Kaymaz, Doğan Angay, İsmet Birtek, Mehmet Yıldırım and Yunus Öztürk) to 6 years and 3 months each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(04/069) Co-Mayor on Trial in Şırnak…

The final trial of the case against Seyfettin Aydemir, co-mayor of Silopi district of Şırnak, is held at Cizre Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 10, 2025. The court sentenced Seyfettin Aydemir to 6 years and 3 months for ‘being an illegal organization member’.

(04/070) Investigation Against Mayor in Zonguldak…

It is learned that Tahsin Erdem, mayor of Zonguldak, was called to give official statement through the investigation of Zonguldak Public Prosecutor’s Office against him for participating in protests against arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and gave official statement on April 11, 2025.

(04/071) Investigation Against Journalists in Van…

It is learned that Van Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Jinnnews reporter Memihan Zeydan and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporters Ruken Polat, Özlem Yacan and Mazlum Engindeniz, for participating in a press declaration in Van, about journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin who lost their lives in North and East Syria.

(04/072) Person on Trial in Istanbul

The first trial of the case against a person named Eren Üner, for sharing the social media posts of police officers who intervened in the protests at Saraçhane Square in Fatih district of Istanbul to protest the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 64 started on April 9, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Eren Üner on the charge of ‘violation of privacy’. After defenses the court sentenced Eren Üner to 3 years and 9 months and released Eren Üner with the verdict.

(04/073) Director on Trial in Istanbul

The final hearing of the case against director Kazım Öz for his film Zer was held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on April 10, 2025. The court acquitted Kazım Öz on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

(04/074) Person on Trial in Istanbul

The indictment of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Ahmet Saymadi through the investigation against Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) was accepted by Istanbul 26th Assize Court on April 10, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Ahmet Saymadi on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The first hearing of the case will be held on May 21, 2025.
