(10/066) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

On October 9, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of October 9, 2025 that prisoners in Erzincan Women’s Prison were forced to speak Kurdish during their phone calls with their families and were forced to speak Turkish.

(10/067) Prisoner Prevented from Right to Access to Health in Prison…

On October 9, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of October 9, 2025 that, Beser Acer, a sick prisoner in Mersin Tarsus Women’s Prison who had partial paralysis, was taken back to prison after 13 days in hospital. It is stated in the news reports that Beser Acer was not transferred to hospital although his condition worsened in prison.

(10/068) Police Intervention to Commemoration in Ankara…

On October 10, 2025, the police used tear gas chemical agent to intervene the march to Ankara Courthouse after the commemoration event in Ankara, on the anniversary of October 10, 2025. It is learned that participants of the march had a sit-in protest after the intervention.

(10/069) Detained People in Izmir for Hanging a Banner…

2 members of Halkevi were detained for hanging banners after the commemoration held in Izmir on October 10, 2025 for the anniversary of October 10 Massacre. 2 people are released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions.

(10/070) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Rahime Karvar continued on October 9, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24. The indictment demands sentence for Rahime Karvar on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court decided to continue judicial control measures against Rahime Karvar and adjourned the trial to November 13, 2025.

Rahime Karvar was arrested on January 20, 2025 and was released at the first hearing of the case held on June 12, 2025.

(10/071) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Melisa Gülbaş for her news article published on Gerçek Gündem website with the headline ‘Boğaziçi administration attacks science: They didn’t even give us a place to put any laboratory equipment’ published on Gerçek Gündem website. The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against her was held on October 9, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 2. The court sentenced the journalist to 7.080 TL judicial fine and deferred the announcement of the verdict on the charge of ‘insulting a public official’.

(10/072) Indictment Against Journalist…

The indictment of Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Abdurrahman Gök based on a secret witness statement was accepted by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on October 9, 2025. The court decided to consolidate the case file with the ongoing case against Abdurrahman Gök on the charges of ‘being an illegal organization member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The hearing of the case will be held on November 25, 2025.

(10/072) Indictment Against Mayor and Other People in Antalya…

The indictment prepared by Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 41 people, 11 of whom are arrested, including the mayor of Antalya’s Manavgat district, Niyazi Nefi Kara, and municipal executives, was accepted by Manavgat Heavy Penal Court No 3 on October 9, 2025.

The indictment demands 41 people to be sentenced for ‘bribery’, ‘corruption’ and ‘embezzlement’.

11 people including Niyazi Nefi Kara were arrested on July 10, 2025 and Niyazi Nefi Kara was suspended from duty.

(10/073) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul

The first trial of the case against 5 police officers for detaining lawyer Murat Çelik by using physical violence and handcuffing him behind his back during the police intervention to the protest of Saturday Mothers/People of Istanbul on July 8, 2023 at Galatasaray Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, started on October 10, 2025 at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 62.

The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officers on the charge of ‘intentional injury’.

The court accepted the participation requests of Union of Turkish Bar Associations and Istanbul Bar Association, rejected the participation requests of other institutions and adjourned the trial to February 18, 2026.

(10/074) Person Prepared for Indictment in Istanbul…

On October 10, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of October 10, 2025 that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against retired Colonel Orkun Özeller for his remarks about Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chair Devlet Bahçeli. The indictment demands sentence for Orkun Özeller on the charges of ‘inciting people to hatred and hostility’ and ‘insult’.

Orkun Özeller was arrested on September 17, 2025.
