(11/090) Racist Attack on Greek Church and Greek School in Istanbul…

It is learned that on November 9, 2023, an anonymous person or persons stoned the Greek Virgin Mary Church and Greek Fener High School in Fener, Istanbul, and wrote “Down with Israel” and “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine” on the walls of the church and the school building.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 9, 2023, that a person named M. Y. was targeted by racist circles for using Kurdish names of cities in their educational video.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 10, 2023, that wards of prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison are being searched every day, and some personal belongings of prisoners are seized and some of them are damaged during searches.

It is learned from news coverage of November 10, 2023, that in Adana Kürkçüler T Type Prison No.1, prisoners’ communication, sportive, cultural, and social rights are restricted, and the meals served to prisoners are not nutritious.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 10, 2023, that sick prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler T Type Prison No.1 were not referred to the infirmary and hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 10, 2023, that sick prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison were not transferred to hospitals on time.

It is learned that the appeal made on November 10, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, to visit them was not responded to.

Journalist Celalettin Yalçın, who was detained in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, was arrested by the court on November 9, 2023, on the grounds of ‘suspicion of fleeing’.

The journalist Mehmet Kızmaz was detained in Batman on November 10, 2023, due to his social media posts about the earthquake and elections. Mehmet Kızmaz was released by the court on the same day.

Bircan Yıldırım, editor-in-chief of BircanTVHaber, who was detained on November 7, 2023, on the grounds of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’ through a social media post, was arrested by the court on November 9, 2023.

(11/098) The Case Regarding the Dismissal of TTB Central Council Members…

The trial of the case regarding the dismissal of the TTB Central Council Members continued on November 10, 2023, at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No.31. The court adjourned the hearing to November 30, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist Barış Pehlivan, upon the complaint of a Court of Cassation member, continued on November 9, 2023, at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to November 16, 2023.

The final hearing of the case filed against Canan Kaya, the editor-in-chief of Medya Koridoru website, upon Demirören Media Group’s complaint due to the news published on the website, demanding 20.000 TL compensation, was held at the Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 39 on November 9, 2023. The court decided to dismiss the case.

(11/101) People on Trial in Ankara…

The first hearing of the case filed against 22 Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) activists, 10 of whom are under arrest, was held at the Ankara Heavy Penal Court No.25 between November 7 and 9, 2023. The indictment demands the defendants be sentenced for ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘commanding an illegal organization.’ After the defenses, the court ruled to release 9 people (Amine Demir Çoban, Gülistan Dehşet, Didar Çeşme, Bedia Akkaya, Figen Aras Kaplan, Hatice Güngör, Hülya Kınağu, Figen Ekt ve Mekiye Ormancı) and continue the detention of Zeynep Boğa. The court also ruled to lift house confinement measures for 2 people (Sultan Esen and Merve Demirel) and lift signature requirements for 10 people, continue the ban on leaving the country for all of them, and adjourned the trial to February 7, 2024.

Through an Ankara-based investigation, 10 of the 22 people detained on November 29, 2022, were arrested on December 3, 2023. 12 people were released on judicial control condition, including house confinement, signature requirements, and a ban on leaving the country.

(11/102) Journalists, Lawyers, and ESP Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 23 people, including Law Office of the Oppressed lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş, Gülhan Kaya and Ali Haydar Doğan, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) news director İsminaz Temel, reporter Havva Cuştan and Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) members and executives continued on November 9, 2023 at the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 27. The court ruled for the release of lawyer Gülhan Kaya, who was arrested in another case that was merged with the case and adjourned the trial to January 11, 2023.

(11/103) HDP Executives on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chairs Zeyyat Ceyhan and Hülya Alökmen Uyanık continued on November 9, 2023, at the Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No.5. The indictment demands Zeyyat Ceyhan and Hülya Alökmen Uyanık be sentenced for ‘being a member to an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ on the grounds of their political activities and the events and protests they participated in. The court adjourned the trial to February 22, 2024.

(11/104) Person on Trial in Ankara…

The final hearing of the case against Veli Saçılık for his social media posts about the Minister of Interior and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair was held on November 9, 2023, at the Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No.30. The court sentenced Veli Saçılık to pay a total of 55,000 TL in compensation and attorney’s fees.
