(11/090) Arrested TMA Chair and HRFT Board Member…

It is learned that the appeal made by 582 lawyers to the arrest of Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) chair and the HRFT executive board member, who was detained on October 26, 2022 through the investigation of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office on her statements to a news channel, and was arrested by the court on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on October 27, 2022; was rejected on November 9, 2022.

(11/091) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 9, 2022 that, 3 prisoners (Ahmet Bilge, Rahim Durukan and Ahmet İsmail) in Maraş Elbistan E Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of the persons who claimed themselves as the Ministry of Justice personnel during the ward search. It is learned that 3 prisoners were injured at several body parts due to torture and ill-treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 9, 2022 that, 12 prisoners were kept in a ward for 10 people in Balıkesir Burhaniye T Type Prison.

(11/092) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 9, 2022 that, prisoners in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison were forced to be searched by the soldiers after the correction officers before hospital transfers and that those who reject it were not referred to hospitals. It is reported that a prisoner named Eylem Baş who was not receiving medical treatment for a month on this ground has lost 6 kilos in this time.

(11/093) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened in the protest of the unions, in front of the Constitutional Court where the appeal to the Teachers’ Profession Law was on hearing on November 9, 2022; and detained 5 people (the Education and Science Employees’ Union [Eğitim-Sen] central women’s secretary Simge Yardım and general financial secretary Ahmet Karagöz, the Education and Science Workers’ Union [Eğitim-İş] chair Kadem Özbay, general financial secretary Hüseyin Selçuk and general law secretary Orhan Yıldırım) by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. Detained union executives were released on the same day. It is learned that the police prevented journalist from recording the intervention.

(11/094) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Istanbul…

Koray Türkay, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Kadıköy district co-chair, who was detained at Kadıköy Port on November 6, 2022 as he was going to participate in the march in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, regarding the allegations of chemical weapon usage in the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government; is released by the court on house confinement on November 9, 2022.

(11/095) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The final trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, as per Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code, on the grounds of “degrading Turkish Nation, State of Turkish Republic, the Organs and Institutions of the State” with his expressions in the statement he made under custody on November 4, 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on November 9, 2022. The court sentenced Sırrı Süreyya Önder to 5 months.

Based on the same expressions, a lawsuit has been filed against Sırrı Süreyya Önder at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 12 and the court has sentenced Önder to 10 months on the charge of “insulting the President”.

(11/096) Association Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Rosa Women’s Association chair Adalet Kaya is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on November 9, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to February 6, 2023.

(11/097) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on November 9, 2022 that 60 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 34,204 between October 3-16, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared on November 10, 2022 that 64 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 22,887 between October 17-30, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 101,327 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,976,729 as of October 30, 2022.
