(05/047) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Avaşin area, and 2 militants died in a clash in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government in April 2022.

(05/048) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Istanbul…

It is claimed in the news coverage of May 10, 2022 that, a 16-year-old child was subjected to verbal harassment of the watchmen in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, and then was detained and taken to the police station without prosecutor’s decision and was subjected to verbal and physical violence there.

The lawyer of the child stated the following to the press: “A 16-year-old girl, she was sitting in an alley in Kadıköy with her boyfriend, 3 watchmen came and asked for their identity cards. One of the watchmen said to her ‘If you are into such things, then do it with me’ and verbally abused her. Later, they took them to the police station, unlawfully and without any instructions from the prosecutor’s office (…) Several officers walked on her at the police station, saying, ‘You are slandering’. And a female officer pushed her into the detention room. She called me on her mobile phone at this time. While we were talking on the phone, they did not allow this and forced her to turn off her phone. Then they shouted, ‘You are slandering’ and ill-treated her. They have threatened her, saying ‘If you apologize and say that you have lied, we will not file complaint about you’ (…) As soon as we heard, I went to the Juvenile Department along with another lawyer. But they did not let us see her, we could get inside after insisting and having quarrels. We will file criminal complaints against the watchmen and police officers.”

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on May 9, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(05/050) Arrested People in Van…

It is learned that 2 people (Makbule Özer [80] and Hadi Özer [79]) were detained in Van on May 9, 2022, and were arrested as the court’s verdict of 2 years and 6 months of jail sentence on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ was finalised.

(05/051) Attack on Party Office in Bursa…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2022 that, anonymous person or persons have left notes including JITEM (The Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit) expression on them, in the district office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Gürsu district of Bursa. It is reported that the executives of HDP filed a criminal complaint but responded by the police saying “The assaulter is a 16-year-old child, there is no need to worry much”.

(05/052) Suspicious Person Entering Party Office in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 10, 2022 that an unknown person entered HDP’s provincial office in Istanbul on May 1, 2022, when no one was in the office. HDP Istanbul Provincial Co-Chair İlknur Birol made a press statement and said the following: “At around 18:02 on May 1, an unknown person comes out from down the street where our building is located, calmly arrives at the front of the building, and he waits for the approval of two police officers in uniforms, who are probably on guard in front of the building. Then he enters the building. After staying in the office for 6-7 minutes and does whatever that we cannot detect right now, he comes out. After leaving the building, this person speaks with the two policemen standing in front of the door wearing official uniforms. The conclusion we have obtained from the images is that this person is armed.”

(05/053) Ban of Events in Adana and Eskişehir…

Adana Governorate’s Office made a declaration on May 9, 2022 and announced that all events including demonstrations, assemblies, press declarations, open-door and indoor meetings, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners are banned for 15 days as of May 9, 2022.

Eskişehir Governorate’s Office made a declaration on May 9, 2022 and announced that all events including demonstrations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, hanging banners, concerts and festivals and so on are banned for 15 days as of May 9, 2022.

(05/054) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 10, 2022, 18 people are detained in operations covering 12 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

(05/055) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 8 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 1,542 as of May 9, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,854 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,044,871 as of May 9, 2022.
