Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) stated that at least 123 workers including 3 women and 6 refugees/migrants lost their lives while working in February 2026.
(03/044) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Istanbul…
It is learned from news coverage of March 5, 2026 that, M.A.E.Ş. (18, m) who was detained in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, was subjected to torture and ill-treatment including sexual assault and was prevented from seeing his lawyer for 6 hours.
DEM Party Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu submitted a parliamentary question on the issue and stated the following “According to the allegations, the youth was beaten by 5 police officers during detention, he was handcuffed behind his back and was subjected to sexual torture by trying to insert a foreign object into his anal area. It is also stated that although his lawyer wanted to meet with his client, he was not allowed to do so for 6 hours.”
Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that an investigation was initiated into the allegations.
(03/045) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from news coverage of March 10, 2026 that Mahsum Yüksekbağ, a prisoner in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No 1, was subjected to discriminatory treatment, physical and verbal violence during transfer to hospital. It is reported that the prosecutor’s office decided not to prosecute the criminal complaint filed by the prisoner.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 5, 2026 that, a prisoner in Erzincan Women’s Prison was not referred to hospital on time, was forced to be examined in handcuffs and was not subjected to necessary tests despite of cancer risk.
It is learned from the news coverage of March 10, 2026 that Mahsum Yüksekbağ, a prisoner in Erzurum Dumlu High Security Prison No 1, could not be treated at the hospital where he was referred for health problems, because he rejected to be examined in handcuffs.

On March 10, 2026, 36 people including former deputy mayor and municipality executives and employees are detained through an investigation against Antalya Manavgat Municipality, on the allegations of ‘establishing a criminal organization, embezzlement, extortion, bribery, bid rigging, laundering assets derived from crime’.

It is learned that Istanbul Bakırköy Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the grounds of Özgür Özel, the Chairperson of Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Manisa MP, for his declaration after the first hearing of the case against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor on March 9, 2026.
(03/049) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul
On March 5, 2026, the final hearing of the case against police officer S.S., regarding the physical violence inflicted on İsmail İshak Arslan, who was detained on May 26, 2023 during the passage of the vehicle of Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Interior at the time, for making a heart sign with his hand towards the vehicle, was held at Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No 72. The court sentenced the police officer to 150 days judicial fine and deferred the announcement of the verdict on the charge of ‘intentional injury by abusing the influence he has’.

On March 9, 2026, it is learned from the news coverage of March 9, 2026 that, 5 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 4 parliamentary members are sent to Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

(03/051) Discriminatory and Phobic Statement of the Minister of National Education…
On March 10, 2026, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made the following phobic and discriminatory statements in his speech on a television program: “For example, [CHP] says ‘allowing freedom for headscarves is against the principle of peace of society’. In other words, a young person going to university with a headscarf disrupts the peace of society. In other words, defending LGBT does not disturb the peace of society, but defining the right to education and training with the headscarf disturbs the peace of society.”
