(03/082) Asylum Seeker Died in Van…

It is learned that an asylum seeker’s dead body was found in rural areas of İpekyolu district of Van on March 9, 2022. The name and nationality of the asylum seeker is unknown.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 9, 2022 that prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were not referred to hospitals for 3 months.

(03/084) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 10, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded.

(03/085) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on March 9, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(03/086) Detained People for Social Media Posts in Malatya…

On March 9, 2022, 2 people are detained on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation in Malatya. The names of detained people are unknown.

(03/087) The Case Against Ankara Bar Association Chair and Executives…

The trial of the case against Erinç Sağkan, current chair of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and former chair of Ankara Bar Association, Kemal Koranel, current chair of Ankara Bar Association and other executive board members; on the grounds of ‘degrading religious values of a section of the public’ in their press declaration about discriminatory expressions of Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 16 on March 9, 2022.

The court rejected intervention demand of President of Religious Affairs and accepted that of Ali Erbaş and adjourned the trial to June 22, 2022.

(12/088) Journalist and Political Party Executives on Trial in Ağrı…

The trial of the case against 5 people, including journalist Aziz Oruç and HDP Doğubayazıt district co-chair Abdullah Ekelek, is held at Ağrı Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 9, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to June 3, 2022.

Aziz Oruç and Abdullah Ekelek were detained on December 11, 2019, on Ağrı-Doğubayazıt roadway, while İkram Müftüoğlu was detained on the same day in a house raid. Abdullah Ekelek and İkram Müftüoğlu were arrested on December 13, 2019; Aziz Oruç was arrested on December 18, 2019. Abdullah Ekelek and İkram Müftüoğlu were released at the first trial held on July 21, 2020, and Aziz Oruç was released on November 9, 2020.

(03/089) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 4 people including Etkin News Agency editor Semiha Şahin and reporter Pınar Gayıp, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 which was to be held on March 10, 2022, is adjourned due to weather conditions.

The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The trial of the case against 7 people for the press declaration in 2020 to commemorate those who lost their lives in Sivas Massacre, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on March 9, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to September 27, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 10, 2022 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared a proceeding demanding lift of impunity of HDP Batman Feleknas Uca for saying “Kurdistan” in a speech.

It is learned that the website of Pir News Agency http://pirha.net is banned to access by Hatay Penal Court of Peace No 1 on March 8, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Yeni Yaşam newspaper http://yeniyasamgazetesi2.com is banned to access by Hatay Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on March 8, 2022.

It is learned that a content about deputy ministers of National Defence published on the Freedom of Expression Association’s website https://ifade.org.tr is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 1 on March 9, 2022.

(03/093) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On March 9, 2022, 13 people are detained in operations covering 5 cities through an Edirne based investigation.

(03/094) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 143 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 33,423 as of March 9, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 95,954 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,459,142 as of March 9, 2022.

On March 9, 2022, dentist Ahmet Rüştü Uluer in Istanbul lost his life due to Covid-19.
