(03/116) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of Police in Şırnak…

It is learned that 1 person who had a quarrel with customs officers at Habur border check-point in Silopi district of Şırnak on March 7, 2021, was handcuffed by the police and was subjected to physical violence. It is reported that the person was then detained.

(03/117) Asylum Seeker Trans Women Attacked in Istanbul…

On March 9, 2021, a Syrian trans woman Asya was attacked by a person named Emre B. in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. It is learned that Emre B. was detained and Asya was injured by hydrochloric acid threw on her face and was admitted to a hospital.

(03/118) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal of visit made on March 9, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysel Aktaş was not responded.

(03/119) Detained Members and Executives of Association and Political Party Executives in Diyarbakır…

28 people have been detained in Diyarbakır through the investigation against MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations), 5 of them (MEBYA-DER co-chairs Şeyhmus Karadağ and Yüksel Almas, Mustafa Karahan, Mustafa Uyguner and Fehim Azak) are arrested by the court on March 9, 2021. 8 people (Ayşe Çelikbilek, Hülya Varan, Ayşe Tutmaz, Murat Özgün, Mehmet Yıldız, Taylan Aslan, Sait Börta and Mehmet Nur Savaş) are released on judicial control conditions.

The number of arrested people raised to 12 while 16 people were released on judicial control conditions.

(03/120) Detained Members and Executives of HDP and Associations in Mersin…

On March 2, 2021, 8 people were detained in house raids in Mersin and Diyarbakır through a Mersin based investigation. On March 9, 2021, 4 of them (Peoples’ Democratic Party [HDP] former provincial co-chair Mustafa Işık, HDP Akdeniz and Toroslar district co-chairs Münir Güzel and Cabbar Karabey, Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement [TJA] activist Beritan Önen) are arrested on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. 4 people (HDP former provincial co-chair Zelal Önen, HDP members Zozan İlgen, Rafiye Erkul and Precarious Workers’ Association (GİŞ-DER) chair Abdülselam Kutlu) are released on judicial control conditions.

(03/121) Investigation Against Lawyers in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 9, 2021 that, Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against 18 lawyers who represent the people detained through the investigation against MEBYA-DER members and executives. It is learned that the prosecutor’s office initiated the investigation without the permit of the Ministry of Justice.

Some of the lawyers subjected to investigation are: Muhittin Muhuç, Gulan Çağın Kaleli, Serhat Eren, Baver Mızrak, Şilan Çelik, Berdan Acun, Osman Çelik, Deniz Yıldız, Fettah Keleş, Ramazan Kurt, Harika Karataş, Hüseyin Boğatekin, Emrah Baran, Fırat İke, Elif Taşdöğen, Serhat Çakmak.

(03/122) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Kibriye Evren is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on March 9, 2021. The indictment demands Kibriye Evren to be sentenced for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

Kibriye Evren attended the trial to make her defence. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 24, 2021.

Kibriye Evren was arrested after being detained with 141 others through a Diyarbakır based investigation on October 9, 2018, and was released at the first trial on November 12, 2019.

(03/123) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Sadık Topaloğlu and Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on March 9, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to June 8, 2021.

(03/124) Journalists and Other People on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against Mücadele Birliği newspaper executive editor Süleyman Acar, Önsöz magazine executive editor Songül Yücel, Labourer Women (EKA) member Nurten Karahancı, Atılım newspaper reporter Serpil Ünal and İnci Şahin and Tuğba Acar, readers of these newspapers and magazines, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 36 on March 9, 2021. The case was opened for their social media posts about Turkish Armed Forces operation to Afrin.

The court sentenced Süleyman Acar, Songül Yücel, Nurten Karahancı, Serpil Ünal, İnci Şahin and Tuğba Acar to 1 year 6 months and 22 days each on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict for all except for Süleyman Acar.

(03/125) Journalist on Trial in Kars…

The trial of the case against journalist Selda Manduz is held at Kars Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 9, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Selda Manduz on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to April 8, 2021.

(03/126) Journalist on Trial in Muğla…

The trial of the case against journalist Hakan Aygün, on the charge of ‘insulting religious values’ in his social media post is held at Bodrum Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on March 9, 2021. The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2021.

Hakan Aygün was detained on April 2, 2020 and was arrested by the court on April 3, 2020. He was released from prison on May 5, 2020.

The trial of the case against journalists Hakan Dirik and Erk Acarer, for the news reports on alleged export of Sarin gas to jihadist opposition groups in Syria, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on March 9, 2021. The court adjourned the trial.

On March 9, 2021, 1 person is detained in a house raid in Ankara, and 4 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through a Bitlis based investigation.

(03/129) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 66 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 801 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on March 9, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 13,755.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 29,160 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,807,387 as of March 9, 2021.
