(06/118) Syrian Child Was Killed in Hatay…

It is learned that on June 9, 2020, a Syrian family living in Reyhanlı district of Hatay was subjected to armed assault of their neighbour T. B., which killed Halid Yusuf, 2 years old child of the family and wounded grandfather Muhammed Yusuf. It is reported that T. B. was detained by gendarmerie.

(06/119) Threatened Journalist…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 9, 2020 that, Yeni Çağ newspaper writer Yavuz Selim Demirağ was threatened with a bullet left to his mailbox in Ankara. Yavuz Selim Demirağ was assaulted by a group in front of his house on May 11, 2019; 6 people who were detained in relation to the assault were then released.

(06/120) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1308 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 9, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

Nazan Bozkurt was detained after the press declaration at 13:30, on the grounds of an investigation against her. Nazan Bozkurt is released by the court on house confinement on June 10, 2020.

(06/121) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On June 9, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/122) Detained Political Party Executive and Others in Mersin…

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mersin provincial executive Ali Bilen, Akdeniz Art Workshop employees Hebun Yüksekbağ, Dilan Demir and Cejna Saruhan are detained on June 9, 2020. The reason of detention is unknown.

(06/123) Detained Life and Environmental Activists in Kaz Mountains…

2 life and environmental activists who wants to visit the area where a “Water and Conscience Watch” continued for 320 days to protest forest cut of a mining company in Kirazli village near Kaz Mountains, are detained on June 9, 2020, by gendarmerie on the grounds of administrative ruling of provincial Public Health and Sanitation Board. Detained 2 people (Melis Tantan and Ozan with unknown surname) are released on the same day. It is learned that gendarmerie threatened activists to detain them in case they went to the area where watch continues.

9 people (Gülizar Canbaz, Emine Çip, Hatice Kara, Nermin Çetin, Kaniye Karasu, Ferhat Fındıl, Ömer Güler, Muhammed Çakır and Hüseyin Tekin) who struggle against mine enrichment facility to be built in Kirazlıyayla village of Yenişehir district of Bursa, are detained on June 8, 2020 upon criminal complaint of the mining company. 9 people are released by the court on June 9, 2020, provided that 5 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

A 16 years old child (F. C.) is detained in a house raid in Halfeti district of Urfa on June 9, 2020, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’.

2 people (Kıymet Tabas and Mehmet Tabas) are detained in a house raid in Suruç district of Urfa on June 9, 2020.

(06/127) Investigation Against Political Party Executive for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 9, 2020 that, an investigation is initiated against Tugay Köse, Fındıklı district chair of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) in Rize, for expressions like “fascist” and “resistance” in his social media posts; and that Tugay Köse gave his official statement through the investigation at Fındıklı Security Directorate.

(06/128) Co-Mayor on Trial in Iğdır…

The first trial of the case against Hasan Safa, HDP co-mayor of Halfeli town of Iğdır is held at Iğdır Heavy Penal Court No 1 on June 9, 2020.

Hasan Safa joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court sentenced Hasan Safa to 7 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Hasan Safa was detained on March 23, 2020 and was arrested by the court on March 27, 2020. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Halfeli Municipality on March 23, 2020.

(06/129) Grup Yorum Band Member on Trial…

The trial of the case against Grup Yorum band member Ali Aracı is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 on June 9, 2020.

After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Ali Aracı and adjourned the trial to September 3, 2020.

Ali Aracı was arrested on June 19, 2020.

(06/130) Leyla Güven Released from Prison…

HDP Hakkari MP and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven, who was arrested after being stripped of MP status on June 4, 2020, is released upon her lawyers’ appeal for her remaining term could be deducted from another case where she was also arrested, on June 9, 2020.

(06/131) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 9, 2020, 160 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 26 cities through an Izmir based investigation on Turkish Air Forces Command.

6 of 16 people including military members on active duty who were detained through a Diyarbakır based investigation are arrested by the court on June 9, 2020. 10 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(06/132) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 18 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 993 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 9, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,729 and total number of confirmed cases is 172,114 as of June 9, 2020.

Restriction of leaving house for people under 18, which was a precaution for Covid-19, is lifted on condition that they are accompanied by their parents.

Restriction of leaving house for people over 65, which was a precaution for Covid-19 is lifted for 10 hours a day (from 10:00 to 20:00).
