A. and R. A. and 1 person named Abdurrahman Okan were subjected to physical violence by the gendarmerie and police officers and the places on the bodies of 3 people were cleaned with water to prevent the marks of physical violence from being visible. 2 people in the house were subjected to threats of the police and gendarmerie officers for speaking Kurdish.

1 person named B., who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment by the police and gendarmerie, stated the following to the press: “When they called me during the raid, I went to them, but as soon as I went to them, they started hitting me. They slapped me in the face. Then they brought me to my uncle’s house and made me lie face down on the ground. I stayed like that for about two hours. They kept hitting me there. They kept asking me, ‘Where is your father? I told them that he was not at home, he was in Nisêbîn, but they started insulting and swearing at me. Then they pushed me against the wall and started to choke me. They asked me to bring my ID card because I didn’t have it with me. When I went to get my ID card, they said, ‘Run away, if you don’t run, we will shoot you’. Then we were made to wait in a car for about two hours in front of the Nezirhan Gendarmerie Station and then we were released. They insulted me and my whole family…We went to the hospital to get a medical report and we will file a complaint”.

Zeynep Aslan, who was subjected to torture and ill-treatment by the police and gendarmerie, stated the following to the press: “They brutally raided the house while we were all still in bed. They pointed guns at us. They put my brothers on the ground and started beating them. We reacted by saying ‘Why are you doing this, is this inhumane’. Then they pointed a gun at our heads and said ‘If you speak one more time, we will shoot you in the head’. My grandmother reacted to this in Kurdish. But they told her, ‘Speak Turkish, not Kurdish’. There was someone among them who spoke Kurdish. But they did not allow my grandmother to express herself in her language. During the search, they searched the house with a huge dog… They entered with their shoes and ransacked the house. They swore at us and made sexist remarks and insults. They threatened us with death. They tried to beat our neighbor and my uncle’s son, who is a dialysis patient. They told him ‘You are not sick, you are pretending to be sick’. When they walked on him, his wife reacted. However, they made unspeakable sexist remarks to his wife. Because they were talking loudly and insulting us, people who heard the voices in the village were worried about us and tried to come home, but they threatened them with death. When we objected to the torture, their superiors said, ‘This is me on my good behavior, wait, I will come back in 3-4 days and this time I will do to women what I do to men. I will torture you too,’ he said. My brothers and my uncle’s son were tortured and beaten in front of our eyes… They came on us a lot because my father was not at home. Since my father was not at home, they detained my mother and said, ‘We will not let your mother go until your father comes back’. My mother was detained unofficially. My mother was detained without an arrest warrant. My mother was not detained, she was kidnapped. They kept her in the car for hours.
