(07/093) Train Crash in Tekirdağ…

24 people died and 318 people were injured in train crash in Çorlu district of Tekirdağ on July 8, 2018. It is reported that 194 of injured people were discharged from hospitals after outpatient treatment, and 124 people are still in hospitals. The names of people died in crash are: Ersen Gül, Serhat Şahin, Melek Tuna, Ayşe Başaran, Ergün Kerpiç, Hakan Sel, Oğuz Arda Sel, Özge Nur Dikmen, Gülce Dikmen, Sena Köse, İrfan Kurt, Mavinur Tiflizden, Bahar Koçman, Yağmur Laçin, Özcan Cesur, Derya Kurtuluş, Beren Kurtuluş, Emel Duman, Bihter Bilgin, Ömer Alperen Can, Seyfi Ergül, Zübeyde Seven, Gani Kartal and Rubize Kartal.

The Prime Minister’s Office imposed a temporary publication ban right after the crash, and the ban is lifted on July 9, 2018.

It is learned that 6 people were detained due to crash on July 9, 2018; and 2 of them who were machinists in the train were released the same day.

(07/094) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of July 9, 2018 that the guard box of village guards in Palamutlu village of Siirt’s Pervari district was attacked with hand grenades. It is claimed in the news report that the people who were in the car which was stopped by the village guards after the incident where 1 village guard was injured, were police officers and also great numbers of guns and ammo were reportedly found in the car’s baggage. It is reported that the villagers turned over the people in the car to the prosecutor’s office.

It is learned that 1 soldier died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Güce district of Giresun on July 9, 2018.

(07/095) Infant’s Right to Health is Prevented in Prison…

It is claimed in the news coverage of July 9, 2018 that Arin Yılmaz, a baby kept with her mother in Urfa T Type Prison No 2, was given incorrect medication and this caused progression in her disease.

Mardin Court of Execution has rejected the application of probation for Esma Yılmaz so that Arin Yılmaz, who is still breastfed, could be treated out of prison.

(07/096) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 9, 2018 at 18.00 and detained 3 people (Acun Karadağ, Derviş Lermi and Erdoğan Canpolat). Detainees were released the same day.

(07/097) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration on July 9, 2018, to protest detention of students based on the banners hold in graduation ceremony of METU students on July 6, 2018. It is learned that the police attempted to detain 3 students, however the students were not detained by means of academicians who interrupt the police.

(07/098) Detained HDP members in Urfa…

3 of 11 people who were detained in Suruç district of Urfa on June 27, 2018, are arrested by the court for social media posts on July 8, 2018. 8 people are released.

(07/099) Detained DBP Members in Elazığ…

It is learned that 6 people including Abdulkadir Gül, Elazığ provincial council member for DBP (Democratic Regions Party), are detained in house raids in villages of Elazığ’s Karakoçan district on July 9, 2018.

(07/100) Özgür Gündem Case…

The case against Eren Keskin, Reyhan Çapan, Reyhan Hacıoğlu, Nuray Özdoğan, Celalettin Can, Ayşe Batumlu, Ayşe Berktay, Filiz Koçali and Hüseyin Aykol, for participating in “Editors-in-Chief on Watch” campaign of Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 14 is held on July 9, 2018. The court decided to request the file of Özgür Gündem main case on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23, in order to judge the demand of consolidation of the cases, and adjourned the trial to October 9, 2018.

(07/101) Journalist and 2 People on Trial in Batman…

The case against Şerife Oruç, reporter of Dicle News Agency which was closed down by the state of emergency decree, on Batman Heavy Penal Court No 2, for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held on July 9, 2018. After defence hearings the court released Şerife Oruç on juridical control conditions and adjourned the trial to November 27, 2018.

Şerife Oruç is detained right after being released from the prison, based on a detention warrant on another case against her.

Journalist Şerife Oruç has been detained along with Muzaffer Tunç and Emrah Oruç on July 3, 2016 and all were arrested by the court on July 5, 2018.

(07/102) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against a former judge İ. B., on Antep Heavy Penal Court No 2 is held on July 9, 2018. The court sentenced İ. B. to 8 years and 9 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
