It is learned that the appeal made on February 9, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(02/122) Police Interventions to Protests Against New Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…
The police intervened the press declaration in Kemalpaşa district of Artvin on February 9, 2021, to protest the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University by the President. It is learned that 2 people were detained and 2 people were injured and hospitalized.

The police prevented the commemoration at Cizre Cemetery on February 9, 2021, held by Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) for the people who lost their lives in two buildings’ basements on February 7, 2016 during the curfew in Cizre district of Şırnak.

The police prevented the press declaration about right violations in prisons and torture of strip search, organized by HDP in front of Türkan Saylan Cultural Center in Izmir on February 9, 2021.

On February 9, 2021, Ekrem Yalçın, city council member from HDP in Güroymak district of Bitlis is detained. The reason of detention is unknown.
(02/126) Detained CHP Members for Hanging Posters in Izmir…
On February 9, 2021, 3 members of Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) who were hanging posters about Berat Albayrak, resigned Minister of Treasury and Finance; are detained in Kemalpaşa district of Izmir. 3 people (Ozan Yalçın, Salman Demir and Cem Akbulut) who were detained on the grounds of ‘insult and threat against a public officer’, are released by the court.

Ozan Acıdere, a photo journalist and Boğaziçi University student, who was detained by the police at the entrance of university campus on February 8, 2021, is released by the court on house confinement on February 9, 2021.
(02/128) Journalist on Trial in Erzurum…
The first trial of the case against Dindar Karataş, reporter of Mezopotamya News Agency, is held at Erzurum Heavy Penal Court No 3 on February 9, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Dindar Karataş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
Dindar Karataş joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court released Dindar Karataş and adjourned the trial to May 27, 2021.
Dindar Karataş was detained on November 24, 2020 and was arrested by the court on November 26, 2020.
(02/129) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
Journalist Hatice Kamer has been acquitted in the case on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media posts’ however Diyarbakır Regional Court reversed the local court’s verdict. The retrial of the case is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on February 9, 2021.
The court acquitted Hatice Kamer once again.
(02/130) Suruç Massacre Case…
The trial of the case on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5, for the massacre in Suruç where 33 people died on July 20, 2015, is held on January 9, 2021.
The court decided to continue detention of Yakup Şahin and adjourned the trial to March 27, 2021.
(02/131) Security Officer on Trial for Death of Mehmet Uytun…
On October 9, 2009; Mehmet Uytun, a 16-monhts-old baby lost his life by a gas canister in Cizre district of Şırnak. The gas canister that hit the baby at the head, was fired by the police intervening a protest. The Constitutional Court, upon the individual appeal, has ruled over the non-prosecution decision of Cizre Public Prosecutor’s Office on the grounds of right violation.
The first trial of the case against specialised sergeant H. A. is held at Cizre Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on February 8, 2021.
It is learned that the official report stating that the gas canister which killed Mehmet Uytun was annihilated by the police, was inserted in the case file. The court adjourned the trial to a future date.

Denizli Governorate made a declaration on February 9, 2021 and banned all open-door meetings, demonstrations, press declarations, sit-in protests and so on for 1 month as of February 9, 2021.
(02/133) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On February 9, 2021, 27 people are detained in operations covering 15 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.
It is learned that a detention warrant was issued for 20 people through an Edirne based investigation and operations are initiated in 10 cities on February 9, 2021.
(02/134) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 98 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 659 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on February 9, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 8,636.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 26,998 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,548,195 as of February 9, 2021.
It is learned that 2 health workers (pharmacist Halil Bozdağ in Manisa and doctor Necmi Aslan in Mersin) lost their lives from Covid-19 on February 9, 2021.
