(12/103) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

Şırnak Governorate announced that 2 soldiers died and 7 soldiers got wounded due to an explosion in rural areas of Sarıköy village of İdil district on December 9, 2019.

(12/104) Children Subjected to Police Violence in Ağrı…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 9, 2019 that 2 children were subjected to physical violence of the police because of disobeying stop warning for not having driver’s licence in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı. It is stated in the news reports that M. F. (16) and E. C. A. (15) were opened fire from an armoured police vehicle chasing and then hitting them. Children were taken out of their car and were subjected to physical violence of the police. It is stated that no medical report evidencing the violence to children who were brought to hospital handcuffed to each other.

(12/105) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1126 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 9, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 9, 2019, 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Mehmet Dersulu and Merve Demirel) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ and Merve Demirel) were detained.

Thus in total 5 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 9, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

 (12/106) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on December 9, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 3 people (Mahmut Konuk, Cemal Yıldırım and Mehmet Dersulu). It is learned that 3 people were released the same day.

(12/107) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest at Bakırköy Square on December 9, 2019 of Nursel Tanrıverdi who rally to regain her job from which she had been dismissed by state of emergency decree, and detained her by using physical violence.

(12/108) Detained Co-Mayors in Van…

Muradiye district co-mayor Yılmaz Şalan, Özalp district co-mayors Dilan Örenci and Yakup Almaç, who were detained in house raids in Van on December 6, 2019, are arrested by the court o the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. Başkale district co-mayor Erkan Acar and Muradiye district co-mayor Leyla Balkan who were also detained through the same investigation are released on judicial control conditions.

It is learned that singer Yılmaz Çelik who was detained after his concert in Tunceli on December 8, 2019 is arrested on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on December 10, 2019.

(12/110) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against police officer Murat A., on the grounds of hitting and breaking the back of lawyer Zeycan Balcı, during a press declaration on March 30, 2016 in front of Istanbul Court House, is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 22 on December 9, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for Murat A. on the charges of ‘injury’, ‘intentional injury that cause bone fracture’, ‘extensive use of force’. It is stated in the expert report that “It is understood that, during the intervention by the prosecutor’s order against lawyers of Istanbul Bar Association having a sit-in protest in front of Istanbul Courthouse, suspect police officer M. A. excessed the limit of using force and kicked Balcı, and injured her to cause bone fracture”. It is learned that M. A. stated the following in his defence: “We went there as a precautionary measure. The intervention was done when we arrived there. I did not have a shield at that moment. There is no evidence proving I was the one that intervene her”. The court adjourned the trial to April 13, 2019.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 9, 2019 that Association for Freedom of Expression (IFOD) prepared a report for UN Periodic Review 2020 and stated that the number of websites banned to access in Turkey is 2888.310 as of October 2019.

(12/112) Proceedings Against Parliamentary Members…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 9, 2019 that, 21 proceedings against 11 parliamentary members including HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli, are submitted to the Constitution and Justice Committee of the Grand National Assembly.

HDP MP’s subjected to proceedings are: Pervin Buldan (1 proceeding), Sezai Temelli (1 proceeding), Ömer Öcalan (1 proceeding), Sait Dede (1 proceeding), Berdan Öztürk (1 proceeding), Pero Dündar (1 proceeding), Serpil Kemalbay (1 proceeding), Meral Danış Beştaş (1 proceeding).

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) MP’s subjected to proceedings: Mustafa Baki Ersoy (1 proceeding), Olcay Kılavuz (1 proceeding), Cemal Enginyurt (1 proceeding).

(12/113) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on December 9, 2019 and announced that, all open and indoor events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of December 10, 2019. All events are banned in Van for 1128 days since November 21, 2016.
