(08/051) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 6 soldiers ((Fatih Uğur Altınbaş, Kemal Özek, Uğur Özdemir, Özkan Lale, Mahmut Üçdağ, Mustafa Sezer) died in a clash bewteen the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants during the “Claw-Lock” military operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 9, 2023.

(08/052) People Injured in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2023 that 8 prisoners in Elazığ Prison were injured as a result of the attack of a prisoner entering their single wards with a sharp object.

(08/053) Cancelled Exhibition…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 10, 2023 that, “We will meet again: Memory of Imbros 1964” exhibition which was planned to be opened in Gökçeada, was cancelled after being targeted on social media, with posts like “If we see an offensive approach against our state and nation in the exhibition, we will start a legal procedure. We will file a criminal complaint against those who did it and let it happen. No one can humiliate our state and our nation. Especially on our land. Our state should also review the rights it has given to the Greeks. While Western Thrace is crying blood, they are trying to curse us, in our country. How dare?” Journalist Melike Çapan, who prepared the exhibition, stated the following to the press: “The targeting of our exhibition on social media as of last night pushed us to take a very difficult decision. Unfortunately, as a result of the pressure of some groups on official institutions, we decided to cancel our exhibition, which is a step to confront the past and rebuild a common future.”

(08/054) Administrative Fine for TV Channels…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2023 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued KRT TV channel with broadcasting bans for 3 times and with an administrative fine for the expressions about the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Kurdish voters in a programme; TELE1 channel with broadcasting bans for 3 times and with an administrative fine for the expressions about the July 15 coup attempt, children on Quran courses and their families, and the women in headscarves. It is also learned that RTUK issued Power Türk channel with an administrative fine on the grounds that “the villain emphasizes sexual intercourse as a way out of all the depressions, and prefers fighting, smoking and drinking alcohol to solve problems” in a broadcasted video clip; and issued NR1 channel with an administrative fine for slang expressions in a video clip.
