The Ministry of National Defence announced on August 9, 2022 that, 1 soldier (Infantry Sergeant Mustafa Demir) who has been injured in an explosion in the Claw-Lock operation area of the Turkish Armed Forces units in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 6, 2022, died in hospital.

Taner Atmaca (25), who allegedly attempted suicide in Batman M Type Closed Prison on July 29, 2022, died on August 9, 2022 in Batman Training and Research Hospital, where he was being treated. It is learned that Taner Atmaca’s family filed a criminal complaint against the prison administration, and their request to receive the footage of the incident was not accepted.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 9, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 9, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened by using physical violence in the protest of the workers of the ETF Textile factory in Tuzla district of Istanbul, on August 9, 2022, for the unpaid severance pay and bonuses. It is learned that nobody was detained but at least 2 people were injured.
(08/080) Police Intervention to a Protest in Muğla…
The police intervened in the protest against the hotel construction in the Kızılkum area of İçmeler neighbourhood of Marmaris district in Muğla, despite the court’s cancellation decision, and detained 15 people. Detained people are released on the same day after statement procedures.
(08/081) Police Intervention to a Funeral in İstanbul…
The police prevented the funeral ceremony for Ulaş Alankuş, a member of the Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) and the People’s United Revolutionary Movement (HBDK), who lost his life in a clash in Ağrı, which was to be held in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul on August 9, 2022. It is learned that the police blocked the way of the funeral vehicle, forcibly removed the family members from the vehicle on the grounds that they would take the body to Cemevi (Alevi house of worship), and took the funeral vehicle to the Gazi Cemetery. The police intervened the people waiting to attend the funeral in front of the Cemevi, and detained 10 people, including the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir provincial co-chair Çınar Altan, using physical violence.

It is learned that 2 people (HDP Bekirhan town co-chair Sezgin Yavuz and Yusuf Şahin) are detained by gendarmerie in house raids in Kozluk district of Batman on August 9, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2022, an investigation was launched ex officio by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the allegation that a group of fans ‘insulted the President’ in their cheers before the Fenerbahçe-Ümraniyespor match played in Kadıköy district on August 8, 2022, It is learned that the Police Department was instructed to identify the people in the images shared on social media.

Mehmet Naci İnci, the deputy rector of Boğaziçi University instead of Melih Bulu who was appointed by the President as the rector, ended duty of lecturer Can Candan on August 9, 2022, on the grounds of the disciplinary investigation opened against him. Can Candan’s duty was terminated on July 16, 2021, and he has returned to his post at the university on March 25, 2022 by the court’s verdict.

Batman Governorate’s Office made a declaration on August 10, 2022 and announced that all events such as open-door and indoor meetings, protests, demonstrations, human chain protests, distributing leaflets, opening stands and tents and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permit for 10 days as of August 10, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports Regarding the appointment made to replace the dismissed physician in Bakırköy Prison, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, http://www.diken.com.tr/ and https://t24.com.tr/ websites, are banned to access and ruled to be deleted by Bakırköy Penal Court of Peace No. 2 on August 9, 2022, based on the previous decision to ban the news on the grounds of violation of personal rights.

It is learned that 11 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Istanbul based investigation on August 9, 2022.
