(08/080) Person Died by Police Fire in Mardin…

It is learned that a Syrian citizen whose name is not declared, died by the fire opened by the police on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Nusaybin district of Mardin on August 9, 2021.

The Ministry of Interior made a declaration and stated the following: “The police squads wanted to stop this person as they got suspicious of him; and then he was neutralized as he tried to explode the bomb on him. He was a terrorist attempting an attack, and he is caught dead as he did not obey stop warding and started running on to security officers although they fired their guns up into the air. After the operation security is provided at the area and the bomb is deactivated by specialists.”

(08/081) Suspicious Death of a Journalist in Ankara…

QHA Turkey (Crimean News Agency) editor-in-chief Aydın Taş found dead at his home at Ankara on August 9, 2021. The reason of his death is unknown.

(08/082) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Ağrı…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2021 that, Demirbaş family’s home in Ağrı is raided upon the complaint of a special task police officer on August 6, 2021, and that at least 2 people were subjected to physical violence of the police.

Eyüp Demirbaş stated the following to the press: “My mother sends one of my siblings to the neighbours upstairs, for they make noise at nights and they get quiet that night. But E. Y., who was warned by my mother, argues with her again the next day. She says that her husband is a special task police officer, and she threatens my mother with gathering the police there. Then my mother talks about it with my father and he attempts to talk with A.Y., the special task officer husband of E. Y. to settle the matter. But as he calls him, A. Y. says ‘You have crossed the line, I am sending a group of my friends there’ and threatens him.”

Kutbettin Demirbaş stated the following: “He said ‘You have crossed the line, I am sending a group of my friends there’ and I said ‘Send whoever you like’ and called the police emergency line. Then my daughter Z. R. D. who was alone home, called me tearfully and said the special task officers have raided the house. Then we went home and saw almost 15 special task police officers in front of the house and 2 of them were using their weapons to knock the door.”

Emrah Demirbaş stated the following: “My brother and my mother, who has passed out, were being kicked as they were on the ground; and I resisted police. But they said ‘This is just nothing’ and continued.”

(08/083) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 9, 2021 that, Sebahat Tuncel, former co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) who is kept in Ankara Sincan Prison, was forced into her ward from the open-door area, by the correction officers that she had a quarrel with. It is also stated in the news reports that Sebahat Tuncel’s letter to the Ministry of Justice was seized by prison administration.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 9, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s family, lawyers and tutelary in order to visit their client was not responded.

(08/085) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on August 9, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 1 person (Nursel Tanrıverdi). Nursel Tanrıverdi is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(08/086) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Muğla…

On August 9, 2021, the gendarmerie intervened the group having a watch to prevent the trees from being cut in Akbelen forest of Milas district of Muğla; and forced the people off the area.

(08/087) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On August 9, 2021, 4 people are detained in an alleged attempt to illegally cross to Greece.

(08/088) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the website of Jinnews News Agency https://www.jinnews30.xyz is banned to access by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 1 on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” on August 9, 2021.

(08/089) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 117 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 23,731 as of August 9, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 52,311 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,942,271 as of August 9, 2021.

It is learned that Mehmet Ağdemir, a radiology technician in Istanbul lost his life due to Covid-19 on August 9, 2021.
