(09/088) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Ramazan Uçakçı) who was wounded in an attack on the Turkish Armed Forces units in Syria, died in hospital on September 9, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 9, 2022 that, 3 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on June 29, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 10, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPD militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 7, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 4 soldiers (Harun Yıldırım, Savaş Borlu, Gökhan Ağıl, Fatih Kalkan) died and 2 soldiers were wounded in an attack during the Claw-Lock military operation in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 11, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 11, 2022 that, 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 18, 2022; 2 militants died in a clash on June 6, 2022; 1 militant died in a clash on June 8, 2022 and 1 militant died in a clash on July 18, 2022.

(09/089) Racist Attack in Kastamonu…

It is learned that 1 person (A. B.) died and 1 person (H. O.) was injured in the racist attack against Kurdish workers working in a building in the Cide district of Kastamonu on September 11, 2022. It is learned that 1 person (S. O.) who was detained in connection with the attack was arrested by the court on September 12, 2022.

(09/090) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 12, 2022 that, the prisoners in Mersin Tarsus T Type Prison No. 3 were forced to stand up in military order during roll-calls.

(09/091) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 11, 2022 that, on September 5, 2022, 3 prisoners (Behram Sağdıki, Mehmet Faruk Araz and İbrahim Tikan) joined the hunger strike that started in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No. 2 on August 29, 2022 to demand an end to right violations. The number of prisoners on hunger strike is 6 as of the moment.

(09/092) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the Justice Watch protest of the prisoners’ families in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on September 10, 2022; and detained 8 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(09/093) Detained DBP Executive in Istanbul…

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) central executive board member Eşref Yaşar, is detained in Istanbul on September 9, 2022, on the grounds of violating the judicial control conditions. Eşref Yaşar is released by the court on September 10, 2022, on the condition of not leaving the city.

On September 10, 2022, 1 person (M. H.) is detained in Antep on the grounds of social media posts.

(09/095) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of HDP including former co-chairs, including 20 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 between August 29 and September 9, 2022.

It is learned that on August 29, 2022, the court rejected the recusation demand of the defendants’ lawyers regarding the previous chief judge of the case who has been dismissed.

It is learned that the chief judge asked Sibel Akdeniz to make her defence declarations in Turkish, due to the translation problem as she was making her defence in Kurdish on August 31, 2022. And it is learned that Sibel Akdeniz refused to do so and the court ruled that she has time to make her written defence in Turkish until September 6, 2022.

On September 9, 2022, the court decided to continue the detention of the arrested politicians, and to reject the requests of the lawyers for hearing Efkan Ala, the Minister of Interior back then; Ahmet Davutoğlu, the Prime Minister back then, Hakan Fidan, the head of National Intelligence Organisation (MIT), President Tayyip Erdoğan and former MIT undersecretary Emre Taner as witnesses. The court adjourned the trial to be held between September 26 and October 7, 2022.

(09/096) The Case Against Former Co-mayor and Former DBP Co-chair…

Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 5 has sentenced Gültan Kışanak, former co-mayor of Diyarbakır, to 14 years and 3 months; and Sebahat Tuncel, former co-chair of Democratic Regions Party (DBP), to 15 years; and Penal Department No 18 of Antep Regional Court has reversed the verdict.

The retrial of the case is held at Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 5 on September 9, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Gültan Kışanak and Sebahat Tuncel on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to December 16, 2022.

(09/097) CHP Executive on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Canan Kaftancıoğlu, former Istanbul provincial chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), on the grounds of insulting the Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No. 71 on September 9, 2022. The court sentenced Canan Kaftancıoğlu to a judicial fine of 10,620 Turkish Liras.

(09/098) Musician on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned that, the house confinement measure musician Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu, who was arrested for the expressions that she allegedly used at a concert and was released later, is lifted upon objection on September 12, 2022. It is also learned that the court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and ruled that she will go to the nearest police station once a week for signature.

Gülşen Bayraktar Çolakoğlu was detained and arrested on August 25, 2022; and she was released on house confinement upon the objection on August 29, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 10, 2022 that the concert of musician Xece which was to be held at Şırnak University Congress and Cultural Center on October 4, 2022 is cancelled by the rectorate.

(09/100) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 11, 2022 that, 6 news reports about a former Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP, published on https://www.hurriyet.com.tr (2 news reports), https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr and https://www.diken.com.tr (3 news reports) are banned on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by the Access Providers Association on September 6, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 11, 2022 that, the news reports about the statement of a director of the Turkish Radio and Television targeting women, published on https://haber.sol.org.tr, https://www.yurtgazetesi.com.tr, https://www.egeningazetesi.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Izmir Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on September 6, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 10, 2022 that the news reports about Serhat Albayrak published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net, https://www.diken.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on September 6, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 10, 2022 that Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 10 has ruled on September 9, 2022 that the name of Serhat Albayrak will be deleted from the news reports published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net,  https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr websites, on the grounds of violation of personal rights.

It is learned that 9 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(09/102) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on September 5, 2022 that 139 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 32,191 between August 29 and September 4, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 100,979 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,829,941 as of September 4, 2022.
