(06/107) Operations and Attacks…
The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Cem Ahmet Kaya and Halil Şahin) died in the Claw-Lock operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 11, 2023.
(06/108) People Died in Explosion in Ankara…
It is learned that 5 workers died in the explosion at the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) Rocket and Explosive Materials Factory in Elmadağ district of Ankara on June 10, 2023. Names of the deceased workers: Mehmet Kutlu, İbrahim Özdemir, İhsan Küçükerdem, Ahmet Ünal and Fırat Elverir.
Ankara Governorate’s Office made the following statement: “An explosion occurred in the dynamite delight preparation section of our Elmadağ factory at around 08:45, which was considered to be caused by a chemical reaction, and unfortunately, 5 of our workers working there lost their lives.”
(06/109) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Diyarbakır…
It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2023 that, a person named Ali Çetinkaya who was detained by the police in Bismil district of Diyarbakır was subjected to torture and ill-treatment, forced to be a police informant and was threatened to death on an empty land where he was taken.
Ali Çetinkaya stated the following to the press: “I was on my way to bus terminal to go to Batman after visiting my relatives in Bismil. When I went to the district garage, 3 people stopped me, showed their police ID and put me in the car. They did not take me to the security directorate. They gave me to 3 people who were in another car. There was no license plate in the car. I was taken to was a place in Kerxê (Three Hills). It was a vacant area; no one was around. I was detained for 4 hours. They asked me questions in the empty field, and when I did not answer, they used physical and verbal violence for half an hour. (…) ‘We can easily kill you in this desert. No one would know that you came here, help us and we will help you’. After 4 hours, I was left by the roadside.”

It is learned that 1 person was subjected to torture and ill-treatment during a house raid in Cizre district of Şırnak on June 9, 2023.
(06/111) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of June 9, 2023 that an ill prisoner named Besiye Özel in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison was not receiving medical treatment.
It is learned from the news coverage of June 9, 2023 that a prisoner named Fırat Nebioğlu, who had kidney failure, in Diyarbakır T Type Prison, was not transferred to the hospital even though a suitable donor was found.
It is learned from the news coverage of June 11, 2023 that Mücella Yapıcı, who was held in Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison, decided not to go to the hospital due to the torture and other ill-treatment she was subjected to during her transfer to the hospital. The Human Rights Association (İHD) co-chair Eren Keskin, who visited Mücella Yapıcı in prison, stated the following: “While she was being taken to the hospital, her arms were tightly handcuffed and as a result, bruises occur on her arms. Because of this, Mücella Yapıcı decided not to go to the hospital anymore.”

It is learned that the appeal made on June 9, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.
(06/113) Interventions and Bans on Pride Month Events…
The police intervened in the Pride March at the Middle East Technical University (METU) campus to be held as a part of the Pride Month on June 9, 2023 which was banned by the rectorate, and detained 5 people and also 10 other people who were waiting at a bus stop. It is also learned that the police prevented the students who were recording the intervention. Detained people were released on the same day.
(06/114) Police Intervention to Protest in Eskişehir…
The police, intervened, on the grounds of the trans flag carried in the press declaration of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) held in Eskişehir on June 9, 2023 to protest the protocol between Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education and the muftiate, on organizing a conference in schools, and detained 8 people by using physical violence. It is learned that detained people were kept in handcuffs for 6 hours in the detention vehicle and they were subjected to physical, verbal and phobic violence.
(06/115) Police Intervention to Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened, on the grounds of the UEFA Champions League Final match played in Istanbul, in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on June 10, 2023, and detained 20 people and handcuffed them behind their backs. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording the intervention. Detained people are released on the same day. Detained people were: Besna Tosun, Maside Ocak, Hasan Karakoç, Meriç Eyüboğlu, Cüneyt Yılmaz, Leman Yurtsever, Ali Tosun, Ali Ocak, Selvi Gülmez, Hanife Yıldız, Mikail Kırbayır, İrfan Bilgin, Hünkar Yurtsever, Sebla Arcan, Hatice Korkmaz, İsmail Yücel, Meryem Bars, Aylin Tekiner, İkbal Eren, Mukaddes Şamiloğlu.
(06/116) Detained Lawyers…
It is learned that a detention warrant was issued for 4 lawyers of the Law Office of the Oppressed through an Istanbul based investigation and that lawyers Gülhan Kaya and Mustafa Taylan Savran were detained in house raids in Izmir and Istanbul on June 9 and 10, 2023. It is reported that lawyers Sezin Uçar and Kader Tonç were not detained as they were not home during the house raids.
Lawyer Gülhan Kaya who was detained in Izmir on June 9, 2023 was arrested by the court on June 12, 2023.

Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Fırat Can Arslan who was detained in Ankara on June 7, 2023 through a Kırşehir based investigation, was released by the court on judicial control conditions on June 10, 2023.

It is learned that 15 people were detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak on June 9 and 10, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned. Detained people are: Abidin Küçük, İbrahim Şahna, Remzi Dadak, Nasır Şahna, Bezrihan Dadak, Salih Bekiroğlu, Sinan Dalmış, Mehmet Çağdavul, Metin Ecevit, Rıdvan Şahna, Serkan Çağlı, Ruken Acet, Melike Duran, Muhlis Dalmış and Hasan Dadak.

It is learned that 12 people including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) executives were detained in house raids Beytüşşebap district of Istanbul on June 12, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned. The names of detained learned so far are: HDP Beytüşşebap district co-chair Zarife Borak, HDP district executive Emrah Yacan, Lokman Abi, Devrim Abi, Mehmet Cin, Nevzat Borak, Davut Borak, Nasreddin Aşan, Sait Acar, Yusuf Bor and Cemal Bor.

It is learned that 18 people were detained in house raids in Muş on June 12, 2023, on the grounds of participating in the funeral held for Mehmet Şirin Aydın, who lost his life in an attack on Ahmet Kaya Cultural Center in Paris on December 23, 2023. The names of detained people could not be learned.
(06/121) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The retrial of the case against Diyarbakır co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on June 9, 2023 as the Penal Department No. 3 of the Court of Cassation has overturned the 9 years 4 months and 15 days of jail sentence given on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. Selçuk Mızraklı joined the trial via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Selçuk Mızraklı and adjourned the trial to September 11, 2023.
(06/122) Parliamentary Member and Association Chair on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) Diyarbakır MP and Rosa Women’s Association chair Adalet Kaya is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on June 12, 2023. The court decided to send a writ to Diyarbakır Provincial Election Board and the Grand National Assembly regarding that Adalet Kaya was elected as a parliamentary member. The court rejected to lift the judicial control conditions for Adalet Kaya and adjourned the trial to October 25, 2023.

The final trial of the case against journalist Mehmet Baransu, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 60 on June 9, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Mehmet Baransu on the charges of insulting the President, the 1st Army Commander and the judges of the Balyoz case. The court acquitted Mehmet Baransu.

The final trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ceylan Şahinli, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in events she participated in 2017, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 20 on June 12, 2023. The court acquitted Ceylan Şahinli.
(06/125) Newspaper Employees on Trial in Istanbul…
The retrial of the case against İhsan Yaşar, İshak Yasul, Mehmet Ali Çelebi, Mizgin Fendik, Pınar Tarlak, Reyhan Hacıoğlu and Hicran Urun, employees of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on June 12, 2023 as the Istanbul Regional Court has overturned the earlier verdicts. The indictment demands sentence for 6 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘publishing documents of an illegal organisation’, ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘praising offence and offender’. The court adjourned the trial to November 1, 2023.

The trial of the case against 12 police officers including 1 arrestee, for death of Birol Yıldırım at Esenyurt district police station in Istanbul on June 5, 2021, is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on June 9, 2023. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for 6 police officers on the charge of ‘causing death by conscious negligence’ and ‘intentional injury’; and for 6 police officers on the charges of ‘intentional injury by abuse of power’. The court adjourned the trial to September 18, 2023.
