(04/115) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 1 soldier (Celal Özcan) died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Eruh district of Siirt on April 9, 2021.

(04/116) Suspicious Death of a Soldier in Urfa…

Soner Yıldız, a person on compulsory military service at Tekçe border post in Akçakale district of Urfa, lost his life on April 9, 2021. It is claimed in some news reports that Soner Yıldız suicided, while official authorities made no statement yet.

(04/117) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 11, 2021 that, İbrahim Halil Ercan was subjected to physical violence of the police raiding a house in Dumlupınar rural neighbourhood in Bismil district of Diyarbakır on April 6, 2021.

It is reported that after one of his relatives was detained, İbrahim Halil Ercan was taken to his house in Dicle neighbourhood, with a bag covering his head and handcuffed behind his back; and he was subjected to physical violence of the police along the way. It is learned that his house and yard were dug by the police for search; and he was threatened to death unless he accepts the ammunition alleged to be found in the search.

It is learned that İbrahim Halil Ercan’s lawyers will make a criminal complaint to the prosecutor’s office regarding torture and ill-treatment.

(04/118) People Subjected to Physical Violence of Police in Ağrı…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 9, 2021 that, a person who had a quarrel with special operations police officer in Ağrı on April 2, 2021; was subjected to 14 special operations police officers who came to Murat Şehit Halis Çınar Police Station where he went to file a criminal complaint. It is stated in the news reports that 3 police officers of the station were also subjected to physical violence of the special operations officers. It is also reported that the video footage recorded by a lawyer at the station was forcibly deleted by special operations officers.

It is learned that the person who was first subjected to violence had a medical report evidencing the violence and made criminal complaint against 14 special operations officers.

(04/119) People Subjected to Physical Violence of Police in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 9, 2021 that, 2 people were subjected to physical violence of 2 people that are reported to be undercover police officers, after having a quarrel with them, in Akçakale district of Urfa. It is learned that 2 people who were subjected to violence were then taken to Akçakale Security Directorate.

(04/120) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2021 that, Ercan Yıldız, a prisoner in Kırıkkale F Type Prison was transferred to Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 9, 2021 that, a prisoner in Izmir Menemen T Type Prison was subjected to physical violence of correction officers and was not taken to infirmary afterwards.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 10, 2021 that, Hamdusena Ada was subjected to physical violence of correction officers in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1 and was injured at arm and hand.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 10, 2021 that 3 prisoners in Şırnak T Type Prison were transferred to other prisons under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 10, 2021 that, the story book of journalist Oktay Candemir (Görücü-Bölücü Hikayeler) was not given to a prisoner in Van High Security Prison, on the grounds that it “jeopardizes public security and makes it difficult to rehabilitate inmates”.

(04/121) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 10, 2021 that, ill prisoner Hamdusena Ada in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 1 was not referred to hospital for 3 months.

(04/122) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 9, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(04/123) Detained Mayor, Political Party and Association Members and Executives and Journalist in Diyarbakır…

On April 5, 2021, 25 people including Çınar district mayor Necla Tamriş, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) central executive board member Zeynep Üren and Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır.

2 people (Çınar district co-mayor Necla Tamriş and DBP Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Seval Gülmez) are arrested by the court on April 9, 2021. The court released 3 people (Diyarbakır city council member Ruken Bekalp, Tevgera Jinên Azad – Free Women’s Movement [TJA] activist Emine Kaya and Peoples’ Democratic Party [HDP] Kayapınar district former co-chair Besile Narin) on judicial control conditions. 1 person (Zeynep Aykat) is learned after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office while detention period for 3 people (TJA activist Zelal Bilgin, Diyarbakır city council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ and Rabia Tekas) is extended.

8 people are arrested through this investigation so far while 14 people are released provided that 1 person will be on house confinement and 12 people will be on judicial control conditions.

(04/124) Detained People in Adana…

 3 of 8 people (B. S., M. A. and R. H.) who were detained in Adana are arrested by the court on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on April 10, 2021. 5 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(04/125) Detained People in Van…

3 of 5 people (Sabri Ecer, Abdulcebbar Ecer and 1 more person) who were detained through a Van based investigation are arrested by the court on April 9, 2021. 2 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(04/126) HDP Former Co-Chair on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP’s former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 25 on April 9, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Selahattin Demirtaş on the grounds of ‘threat’ and ‘targeting public officials on anti-terror duty’.

The court rejected recusation demand of lawyers and adjourned the trial to May 7, 2021.

(04/127) People on Trial in Adana…

The first trial of the case against 14 people including HDP provincial co-chairs Gülseren Tural and Mehmet Masum Eriğ, Adana Bar Association’s former chair lawyer Gazi Mengücek Çıtırık, for the press declaration held on August 26, 2020 to protest trustee appointments to Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van cities; is held at Adana Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on April 9, 20201.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

(04/128) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 16 people including Nuriye Gülmen, a participator of “I Want My Job Back” protests in Ankara, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27 on April 9, 2021.

After defence hearings the court released 6 people (Ezgi Kırlangıç, Işılgül Çakmak, Mehmet Göçebe, Özlem Karataş, Songül Say and Turan Dolu) and decided to continue detention of 3 people (Nuriye Gülmen, Rıdvan Akbaş and Yasemin Karadağ) and adjourned the trial to June 10, 2021.

Nuriye Gülmen and Rıdvan Akbaş were detained on August 5, 2020 and were arrested on August 12, 2020. 16 people were detained through an Istanbul based investigation on December 18, 2020 and 7 of them were arrested on December 22, 2020.

(04/129) Ban of CHP Posters…

It is learned that posters of Republican People’s Party (CHP) asking “Where is the 128 billion dollars?”, post on billboards in Mudanya district of Bursa, were removed upon prosecutor’s instructions on April 9, 2021.

It is learned that the same posters of CHP posted in billboards in Kastamonu were removed upon prosecutor’s instructions on April 10, 2021.

It is learned that the same posters of CHP posted in billboards in Edirne were removed upon prosecutor’s instructions on April 11, 2021.

(04/130) Suspended Local Authority…

It is learned that Çağdaş Araz, local authority of Gül neighbourhood of Yeşilli district of Mardin is suspended from office for 1 month by Yeşilli sub-governorate on April 9, 2021.

Çağdaş Araz was alleged to organize the protest of residents who were forced to leave their houses for urban transformation project in the neighbourhood.

It is learned that the Future Party office in Arifiye district of Sakarya is attacked by anonymous person or persons on April 9, 2021 which caused material damage at the office.

(04/132) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports on http://www.diken.com.tr/, https://www.dw.com/tr/, https://www.evrensel.net/, https://www.yurtgazetesi.com.tr/ websites and 2 social media are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 3 on April 9, 2021.

(04/133) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On April 9, 2021, 45 people are detained in operations covering 33 cities through an Ankara based investigation; and 10 people are detained in operations covering 10 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

2 of 3 people who were detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad are arrested by the court on April 11, 2021.

(04/134) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against Yusuf Bekmezci is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 9, 2021. The court sentenced the defendant to 17 years and 4 months on the charge of ‘leading an illegal organisation’.

(04/135) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 253 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,408 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 9, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 55,791.

The Ministry of Health declared that 248 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,497 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 10, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 52,676.

The Ministry of Health declared that 237 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,548 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 11, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 50,678.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 33,939 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,849,011 as of April 11, 2021.

On April 9, 2021, doctor Faruk Kuruhasanoğlu in Samsun lost his life from Covid-19.
