(06/001) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration for the anniversary of Gezi Park protests, held in Fatih district of Istanbul on May 31, 2021, and detained 13 people by using physical violence. The names of detained people are unknown.

The police prevented the press declaration to be held in front of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, on the grounds of sub-governorate’s ban. The police also prevented the people marching to the office of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers to participate in the press declaration, after the declaration held in front of the Human Rights Association Istanbul office for the Week of Disappeared People.

(06/002) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on May 31, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 1 person (Nursel Tanrıverdi). Nursel Tanrıverdi is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(06/003) Police Intervention to Protest Against New Rector Appointed to Boğaziçi University…

The police and private security force intervened the students having a watch protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University by the President, at the South Campus on May 31, 2021. It is learned that nobody was detained, but police and private security officers forcibly took the students out of the campus.

(06/004) Detained People in Istanbul for Hanging Banners…

On May 31, 2021, 2 people are detained for hanging a banner reading “Bulu can neither be the rector of Boğaziçi nor could he be a teacher at Medeniyet”, on the gates of Medeniyet University. The names of detained people are unknown.

(06/005) Detained People in Adıyaman…

On May 31, 2021, 5 people (Hasan Tunç, Sabri Sel, Aziz Yıldız, Ali Süngü and Hasan Süngü) are detained in house raids in Adıyaman. The reason of detention is unknown.

(06/006) Ban of Events in Hakkari, Van and Ikizdere…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on May 31, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of June 1, 2021. All events are banned in Hakkari for 375 days since June 5, 2020.

Rize Governorate made a declaration on May 31, 2021 and announced that all marches, protests, sit-in protests, hunger strikes, opening stands and tents, open-door and indoor assemblies, car convoys with mobile audio vehicles, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, meetings, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, gatherings for greeting and farewell, press declarations and so on are banned in Ikizdere district for 15 days as of June 1, 2021.

Van Governorate made a declaration on May 31, 2021 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of June 3, 2021. All events are banned in Van for 1669 days since November 21, 2016.

(06/007) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 31, 2021, 6 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through a Tokat based investigation.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2021 that, Selahaddin Gülen, a relative of Fethullah Gülen, is brought to Turkey from abroad by the National Intelligence Organisation and is detained. It is reported that Selahaddin Gülen is being kept at Ankara Security Directorate. The President has stated “Soon we will announce an important name from the FETO team too, he is in our hands right now. We will explain whom have we captured, whom have we interrogated” on May 19, 2021.

(06/008) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 122 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 596 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 31, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,493.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 47,527 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,249,404 as of May 31, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 31, 2021 that, at least 80 prisoners in Izmir Ödemiş T Type Prison have tested positive for Covid-19.
