(12/001) Person Died by Police Fire in Istanbul…

It is learned that a person (Ç. K.) who was shot by the police fire on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Kadıköy district of Istanbul lost his life on November 30, 2021.

It is learned that the police officer in charge is suspended.

Istanbul Governorate’s Office made the following declaration: “As the police team was on patrol in Göztepe neighbourhood, a car that disobeyed the stop warning was followed. The car was stopped in Fahrettin Kerim Gökay street, and E. Ç., a passenger in the car ran away on foot. The driver, Ç. K., resisted the police and died after he was shot by the police officer’s gun in hand which ignited at that moment”.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 20, 2021 that 5 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Avaşin area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on October 8, 2021.

(12/003) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 30, 2021 that, Özgür Sevim, a prisoner in Trabzon Beşikdüzü T Type Prison, had a quarrel with the correction officers as the clothes sent by his family were not given to him, and was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers.

(12/004) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 30, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

(12/005) Detained HDP Employee and Other People in Mersin…

Düzgün Okutan, deputy advisor to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mersin MP Fatma Kurtulan, who was detained in Mersin on November 25, 2021 is arrested by the court on November 30, 2021.

Umut Çevik and Doğan Bulut, Revolutionary Party members who were detained through the same investigation are released.

(12/006) Detained People in Kars…

2 of 4 people (Ayhan Gezici and Ekrem Bingül) who were detained in Kars on November 26, 2021, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 30, 2021. 2 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(12/007) Detained People in Mardin…

6 of 45 people who were detained in Mardin on November 27, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on November 30, 2021. 30 people have been released on November 28, 2021. It is learned that 9 people are still under custody.

(12/008) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Reyhan Çapan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 2 on November 30, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Reyhan Çapan, on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, ‘making propaganda via press’ and ‘publishing declarations of an illegal organisation’.

The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2022.

(12/009) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Aziz Oruç and Ersin Çaksu, for several news reports on Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 30, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘publicly degrading the state, the government, the military and the security organs’.

The court decided to continue detention warrant for Ersin Çaksu and adjourned the trial.

(12/010) Person on Trial in Izmir for ‘Insulting the President’…

The final trial of the case against video-activist and documentarist Oktay İnce, for social media posts of an anonymous account, is held at Izmir Kemalpaşa Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on November 30, 2021. The court sentenced Oktay İnce to 1 year and 2 months and deferred the announcements of the verdict.

(12/011) Lawyer on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’…

The final trial of the case against lawyer Hakan Mazman, on the charge of “insulting the President” in his social media post 5 years ago, is held at Hatay Iskenderun Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on November 30, 2021. The court sentenced Hakan Mazman to 1 year 2 months and 17 days and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(12/012) Person on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Kayseri…

The final trial of the case against a person named H. Ş., on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in social media posts, is held at Kayseri Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on November 30, 2021. The court sentenced H. Ş. to 1 year 2 months and 17 days and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(12/013) Prisoner on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against Simanur Pamuk, a prisoner in Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, for participating in the hungers strike to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 2 on November 30, 2021.

Simanur Pamuk attended the trial and wanted to make her defence in Kurdish. The court decided to charge the translation cost to Simanur Pamuk in case of conviction and adjourned the trial to March 15, 2022.

(12/014) Police Officers on Trial in Antalya…

The trial of the case against 2 police officers (Y. D. and U. Y.) for death of Murat Araç, is held at Gazipaşa Penal Court of First Instance on November 30, 2021. Murat Araç (19) lost his life after falling from the third floor of Gazipaşa District Security Directorate where he was taken after being detained on December 4, 2017.

The indictment demands 6 months to 2 years of sentence for 2 police officers on the charge of ‘misconduct’.

The court adjourned the trial to March 22, 2022.

(12/015) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On November 30, 2021, 58 people are detained in Ankara and 28 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(12/016) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 207 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 25,216 as of November 30, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 76,842 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 8,795,588 as of November 30, 2021.

It is learned that 3 health workers (nurse Sultan Fidan in Afyon, health worker Nusret Bozacı in Çanakkale, nurse Gülcan Aslan Karakoç in Mersin) lost their lives due to Covid-19 on November 30, 2021.
