It is learned from the news coverage of August 1, 2023 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 25, 2023.
(08/002) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of July 31, 2023 that a prisoner named Burhan Barut in Antalya S Type Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 31, 2023 that a prisoner named Vahdettin Erdemci in Konya Ereğili High Security Prison was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 31, 2023 that 5 prisoners (Gülhan Kaya, Sinem Çelebi, Nadiye Gürbüz, Selvinaz Göçmez, Şükran Yaren Tuncer) in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) L Type Prison No. 9 were subjected to disciplinary proceedings for commemorating those who died in the Suruç Massacre and were prevented from communication rights as a result of this. The duration of the penalty could not be learned.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 31, 2023 that, a prisoner named Burhan Barut in Antalya S Type Prison was on hunger strike to protest torture and ill-treatment since July 7, 2023.
(08/004) Police Intervention to Protest in Hatay…
The gendarmerie used batons, pressurized water and pepper spray to intervene in those protesting expropriation of olive groves and agricultural lands for the residences to be built by the Mass Housing Administration (TOKİ) in Dikmece village of Antakya district of Hatay on July 31, 2023 and detained 7 people including lawyer Bahattin Özdemir by using physical violence. It is learned that some people were injured in the intervention.
3 of 7 people who were referred to the gendarmerie post on the charges of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’ and ‘resisting a public official on duty’, were released after statement procedures on august 1, 2023 while 4 of them (lawyer Bahattin Özdemir, Deniz Polat, Doğukan Aksy and Zekeriya Olgar) were released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office.
(08/005) Detained People in Tunceli…
7 people including Grup İsyan Ateşi music band members and Yeni Demokrasi magazine reporter Erhan Çıta were detained by the police on July 31, 2023 at Seyit Rıza Square in Tunceli, after the governorate’s office has banned the concerts and events of music bands Grup Yorum, Grup İsyan Ateşi and Veradardz Folk Group in the 21st Munzur Culture and Nature Festival. Detained people were: Ertan Çıta, Cevahir Fındık, Yusuf Rencüzoğulları, Melisa Yılmaz, Ali Rencüzoğulları, Yaprak Kurban, Dilek Kurban. Detained people were released on August 1, 2023. It is learned that Grup İsyan Ateşi music band members were banned from entering Tunceli provincial borders and were released after being taken to Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Research and Training Hospital.

It is learned that Abdulkadir Yaman, the local authority of Turgut Özal neighbourhood of Kızıltepe district of Mardin was detained through an investigation against him on July 31, 2023.
(08/007) Banned Concerts and Events…
It is learned from the news coverage of July 31, 2023 that, Tunceli Governorate’s Office banned the concerts and events of music bands Grup Yorum, Grup İsyan Ateşi and Veradardz Folk Group in the 21st Munzur Culture and Nature Festival on July 28, 2023 and that those events were excluded from the festival programme.
