(04/001) Refugees/ Asylum Seekers Died in Muğla…

It is learned that 19 people died due to sinking of a boat carrying refugees/asylum seekers off the coast of Bodrum district of Muğla on April 1, 2026.

(04/002) Detained People Through the Investigation Against Uşak Municipality…

4 people who were detained through an Istanbul based investigation against Uşak Municipality were released by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on March 31, 2026 on judicial control conditions. Through the same investigation, 4 people including Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım were arrested and 9 people were released on judicial control conditions.

(04/003) Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and Other People on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against 12 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, on the allegations of irregularities in the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), where Özgür Özel was elected as the chairman, continued on April 1, 2026 at Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No 26. The indictment demands 12 people to be sentenced for ‘violating the election law’. The court adjourned the trial to May 6, 2026.

(04/004) Person on Trial in Istanbul….

The trial of the case against Murat Övüç, on the grounds of a social media post, continued on April 1, 2026 at Istanbul Küçükçekmece Criminal Court of First Instance No 5. The indictment demands sentence for Murat Övüç on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among the public’. The court ruled for the release of Murat Övüç with the judicial control measures of signature obligation and a ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to a later date.

Murat Övüç was arrested on December 20, 2025.

(04/005) Suspended Mayor…

On March 31, 2026, Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım, who was arrested on March 30, 2026, was suspended from office by the Ministry of Interior.

It is also learned from the news reports that Özkan Yalım’s assets were seized and Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was appointed as trustee to the companies he owned.

(04/006) Association Fined in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 30, 2026 that ARSİSA Language Culture and Art Research Association which is active in Erciş district of Van, was fined 400.000 Turkish Liras on the grounds of ‘conducting education and training activities without permission of the Ministry of National Education’, for opening Kurdish courses.

(04/007) Attack to Right to Life Defenders in Ankara…

On April 1, 2026, it is learned that right to life defenders who protested the mayor of Çankaya district of Ankara, saying “Freedom for animals, people and the earth” during a public meeting of the mayor’s office, were subjected to physical violence of people reported to be CHP members.
