(04/001) Person Died by Security Fire in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that a person named Murat Ekinci (28) died by the fire opened by soldiers on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Bistin rural neighbourhood of Çermik district of Diyarbakır on April 2, 2023. It is learned that an investigation was launched against 5 people on the grounds of ‘reckless killing’ and those people were released after statement procedures.

(04/002) Soldier Died in Mardin…

It is claimed in the news coverage of April 1, 2023 that, a person named Ümit Kadir Gökçek (20) who was on compulsory military duty in Kızıltepe district of Mardin, died as a result of heart attack.

(04/003) Abducted Person in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2023 that, Kurdish business person and German citizen Zeki Oğuz was kidnapped by unidentified people in Istanbul on March 21, 2023, after being forced into a vehicle.

Zeki Oğuz’s lawyer stated the following to the press: “Zeki Oğuz was kidnapped in Istanbul 10 days ago. (…) We still have no news (…) On Friday, March 31, we reached an AKP deputy. We wanted to know where he was. We asked him to take action on this. He said he was kept by the state, that he was alive and that the state only needed a few days.”

(04/004) Racist Attack in Muğla…

It is learned that 3 construction workers in Bodrum district of Muğla were subjected to a racist attack on the grounds of speaking Kurdish on April 3, 2023. It is learned that 3 people were injured due to attack.

(04/005) Threatened Journalist in Kocaeli…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 31, 2023 that, Kocaeli Barış newspaper reporter Merve Dişli was threatened by a person reported to be AK Youth Group chair, over a news report she made.

(04/006) Earthquakes in Malatya, Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 1, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,773 of them were identified and given to their families, 58 children were in the hospital, 78 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 33 children could not be identified.

(04/007) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 2, 2023 that, Pir Sultan Abdal Cultural Association executive Beyhan Gün and association employee Şimal Deniz were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers in Antalya Manavgat S Type Prison.

(04/008) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on March 31, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

17 people who were detained on March 31, 2023 in house raids in Izmir, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ by the slogans chanted and yellow-red-green scarfs wore at Newroz celebration, are released on April 1, 2023.

(04/010) Arrested Person in Istanbul…

An employee of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, named E. E. Y. who was detained on March 30, 2023 on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on social media, is arrested by the court on March 31, 2023.

(04/011) Boğaziçi University Students on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 71 students of Boğaziçi University, who were detained by the police intervening the tent of students in the campus on October 22, 2021, to protest the new rector appointed by the President, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 27 on March 31, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for the students on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court rejected to hear the persons who has recorded the intervention as witnesses and adjourned the trial to November 3, 2023.

(04/012) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 10 people who were detained by the police intervening in the festival for the anniversary of 1 May neighbourhood in Istanbul, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 25 on March 31, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 10 people on the charges of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence and complainant hearings the court adjourned the trial to May 11, 2023.

(04/013) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 40 people who were detained in Kadıköy as they were gathering to participate in the 20th Feminist Night March on Istiklal Street of Beyoğlu district in Istanbul on March 8, 2022, is held at Istanbul Kartal Penal Court of First Instance No. 13 on April 3, 2023. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to November 3, 2023.

(04/014) Investigation on Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 2, 2023, that an investigation was launched by Istanbul Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against several people for social media posts about the members of the Supreme Election Board (YSK). The number of people subjected to investigation is unknown.

(04/015) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that two news reports published on https://www.karar.com website, and a news report published on https://www.birgun.net website, regarding the allegations that Turkey was sentenced to compensation by the International Court of Arbitration, are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 2 on March 30, 2023.

It is learned that two news reports published on https://www.karar.com website regarding the allegations that Turkey was sentenced to compensation by the International Court of Arbitration, is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 5 on March 31, 2023.

It is learned that the news reports about the Free Cause Party (HÜDA-PAR) published on https://halktv.com.tr, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr websites and 2 articles, are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 8 on March 31, 2023.

(04/016) Administrative Fine for TV Channel…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 1, 2023 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued Show TV channel with broadcast ban for 5 times and with administrative fine, for the series “Cranberry Sorbet”.

(04/017) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

1 person named M. E., who was detained in relation to the armoured attack that was carried on the IYI Party Istanbul provincial office on March 31, 2023, is released after statement procedures on April 1, 2023.

On April 2, 2023, 4 members of the Left Party including Bolu deputy candidates Sinan Cantürk and Ahmet Aksoy who were distributing leaflets in Bolu were detained by the police. 4 people were released on the same day.

On April 3, 2023, 19 people including Demokratik Modernite employee Sema Korkmaz were detained in house raids in Istanbul and Izmir through an investigation against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly. The names of detained people learned so far are: Sedat Uğraş, Muhammed Uğraş, Barış Ugun, Rojin Değirmenci, Osman Koçar, Serhat Yavaş, Sema Korkmaz.

(04/018) Ban of Events in Muş…

Muş Governorate’s Office made a statement on April 2, 2023 and announced that open-door meetings, demonstrations, crowded greetings, press declarations outside of offices, sit-in protests, assemblies, opening tents and stands, collecting petitions, commemorations, crowded funerals, festivals, concerts, plays, any kind of audio-visual activities with broadcasting appliances, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 5 days as of April 3, 2023.
