(08/052) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, 2 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to rural areas of Şırnak’s central district on July 28, 2019.

(08/053) People Were Subjected to Police Violence in Adana…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, 4 people (Nihat Korkmaz, Mustafa Korkmaz, Ramazan Korkmaz and Serdar Korkmaz) who reacted against general information checks made by the police in a coffee house in Seyhan district of Adana, were detained by the police using physical violence. It is reported that these 4 people have bruises on their bodies and faces due to violence. It is learned that 4 people were released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

(08/054) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, Müslüm Gönül, a prisoner in Silivri L Type Prison No 2, was subjected to physical violence of the wardens on the grounds that he hugged his spouse during family visit time.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, 4 prisoners in Mardin Prison were transferred to prisons in Diyarbakır under coercion. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Mardin co-chair Şeyhmus Sun, People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Alaatin Zuğurli, Ali Sincar and Sedat Ay were transferred to Diyarbakır D Type Prison and DBP Mardin co-chair Leyla Bozkurt was transferred to Diyarbakır T Type Prison.

(08/055) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, prisoners who have gone on hunger strike to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, were not referred to hospitals after ending the strike. It is stated in the news reports that, prisoners were said at the prison infirmary that, only those who accept to be medically examined in handcuffs would be referred to hospitals which was not accepted by prisoners.

(08/056) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, trans prisoner Esra Arıkan in Bakırköy Women’s Prison, who went on a hunger strike on July 29, 2019, demanding to be referred to Marmara Education and Research Hospital for medical examination by the doctor who were in charge of her treatment earlier, ended the strike on August 2, 2019 after her demands were accepted.

(08/057) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1002 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 7, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 10, 2019, 2 people (Nazife Onay and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazife Onay and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 7, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(08/058) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Batman…

The gendarmerie intervened the march from Hasankeyf district to Batman, organized by a group including HDP MP’s and co-mayors from HDP, who were prevented from holding a watch-protest, and detained 14 people by physical violence. It is learned that the detainees were released after statement procedures at the gendarmerie station on the same day.

(08/059) Detained District Council Member in Mardin…

Samiye Demir, district council member from HDP in Nusaybin district of Mardin, who was detained at Nusaybin District Security Directorate where she went to give official statement through an investigation against her on August 6, 2019, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 7, 2019.

(08/060) Detained HDP Members in Batman…

19 members of HDP Youth Assembly who were detained by the police using physical violence on August 5, 2019, for holding a watch-protest in Hasankeyf district of Batman, are released after statement procedures at the police on August 7, 2019. It is reported that the detained people were forced to strip search and were subjected to physical violence because of rejecting it.

(08/061) HDP Members on Trial in Batman…

The first trial of the case against 8 members of HDP Youth Assembly, including 6 arrestees, for blocking the road to protest isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, on April 28, 2019, is held at Batman Heavy Penal Court No 2 on August 7, 2019. The indictment demands sentence for 8 people on the charges of ‘committing an offence on behalf of an illegal organisation although not being a member of it’ and ‘hijacking or seizure of transport vehicles’. After defence hearings the court released 5 of 6 arrestees (R.C., E.M., D.Y., H.A., M.Ş.Ç., B.D. and H.A.) on judicial control conditions and decided to continue detention of H.K., adjourning the trial to October 31, 2019.

(08/062) Suruç Massacre Case…

The case on Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5, for the massacre in Suruç where 33 people died on July 20, 2015, continued to be held on August 7, 2019. It is learned that video recordings of city surveillance cameras which cover a 5-hours’ time of the day of the explosion were not involved in the case file. The court decided to make an official complaint against Abdullah Ömer who were heard as witness before, to demand complete video footage of the time covering before and after the explosion which will be examined by a commission of experts, to continued detention of Yakup Şahin and adjourned the trial to November 1, 2019.

(08/063) Ban on Access to Web Sites…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 8 has banned to access to 6 posts on social media about the news reports on Directorate of Communications of Presidency Fahrettin Altun and his wife Fatmanur Altun’s receiving double salaries.

(08/064) Ban on Access to Web Sites…

Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 3 has banned to access to 136 websites including Bianet, upon complaint of Gendarmerie General Command on July 16, 2019. It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2019 that, Bianet’s website was banned mistakenly however remaining 135 addresses are still banned.
