(08/036) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2019 that, at least 15 prisoners in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2 were subjected to physical violence of the wardens. It is reported that a prisoner named Medeni Kiye was injured due to violence however he was not taken to hospital for a long while although he was unconscious.

(08/037) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1000 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 5, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 10, 2019, 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Gonca Başak Öz) and at 18.00 25 people (Batuhan Şendağ, Nursel Tanrıverdi, Mahir Kılıç, Cemal Öksüz, Ergin Volkan Aruz, Alev Şahin, Ayser İren, Erol Demirel, Mehmet Dersulu, Turgut Türksoy, Volkan Çeşme, Selvi Polat, Nazife Onay, Mahmut Konuk, Acun Karadağ, Nazan Bozkurt, İlker Işık, Bülent Kolay, Cafer Keleş, Yiğit Özgür Keleş, Ünal Kaymak, Merve Demirel, Eser Budak, Cengiz Tepe, Deniz Eriş) were detained. It is reported that Deniz Eriş was injured at head and arms due to police violence.

Thus in total 27 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on August 5, 2019. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(08/038) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened into the protestors in front of Çankaya Public Health Directorate on August 5, 2019, who rally to regain their jobs from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 2 people (Mahmut Konuk and Cemal Öksüz). It is learned that 2 people were released the same day.

(08/039) Detained HDP Members in Batman…

The police used physical violence against 19 members of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly who were visiting historical sites of Hasankeyf district of Batman, and detained them on the grounds of “violating the ban of marching as a group”, on August 5, 2019. The detainees were released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

(08/040) Detained City Council Member and Political Party Executives in Ağrı…

6 of 7 people including district council member and HDP district executives who were detained in house raids on August 2, 2019 in Patnos district of Ağrı, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on August 5, 2019. 1 person is released on judicial control conditions. The names of arrested people are: district council member Mehmet Şahin Savcı from HDP, HDP district executives Orhan Tutak, Ömer Yavuz, Fatih Dilmaç, Musa Uygar, Melek Kartal. Mehmet Emin Savcı is released on judicial control conditions.

(08/041) Detained HDP Co-Chair in Mardin…

HDP’s Mardin provincial co-chair Eylem Amak, who was detained at a police check point on Diyarbakır-Mardin roadway on August 4, 2019, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 5, 2019.
