(06/062) Torture Under Custody in Diyarbakır…

On June 4, 2020, Human Rights Association (IHD), HRFT and Diyarbakır Bar Association shared their report on allegations of torture and ill-treatment against M. E. C., at Diyarbakır Security Directorate on May 31, 2020.

The report covers the statements of M. E. C., describing the lawyers torture and ill-treatments that he was subjected to: “After I surrendered to Bağlar police station, a squad came in 5 minutes and they took me to the police station nearby Oryıl. They kept beating and torturing me, since I surrendered (…) The worst torture and ill-treatment was committed against me in the room at the left end of the corridor at Public Security Bureau Homicide Department (…) They kept torturing me while I was handcuffed behind my back. They took off my clothes and tortured me with bare hands and clubs. They choked me, prevented my breathing, and loosen it at the moment I was very close to get suffocated. They bent my head and tried to close my eyes while they were torturing me. I was not conscious until it was before noon on June 1. The doctor examined me where I was, 15 or 20 minutes before I gave my statement on 31.05.2020. One of the police officers were present during medical examination.”

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2020 that, 8 prisoners in Kırşehir E Type Prison started an infinite hunger strike to demand an end to right violations, torture and ill-treatment. Prisoners on hunger strike are: Ç. Y. (since May 19, 2020), C. Y. and M. D. (since May 22, 2020), E. K. (since May 25, 2020), M. Y., F. G. and M. K. (since May 28, 2020).

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2020 that, in Kırşehir E Type Prison, letters of prisoners, about torture and ill-treatment, which are addressed to group deputy offices of Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) at Grand National Assembly of Turkey, were not sent on the grounds of being inconvenient.

(06/065) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1304 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 4, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/066) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On June 4, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/067) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the press declaration at Abdullah Cömert Park in Samandağ district of Hatay on June 4, 2020, about Edibe Özçelik who had a heart attack when her house was raided by the police in Samandağ district of Hatay and who died on January 20, 2020; and detained 1 person (Ümit Özçelik) by using physical violence. Detained person was released on the same day.

2 members of Free Young Women organisation, who held a banner “Where is Gülistan Doku?” on the ferry from Kadıköy to Eminönü in Istanbul on June 3, 2020, are detained by the police.

(06/069) Arrested Parliamentary Members After Being Stripped of MP Status…

HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, HDP Diyarbakır MP Musa Farisoğulları and CHP Istanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu are stripped of their MP status after finalized court sentences against them were read out at Grand National Assembly of Turkey on June 4, 2020.

Leyla Güven, Musa Farisoğulları and Enis Berberoğlu are detained on the same day and put in prison after they are arrested by the court.

Actor Haldun Açıksözlü is detained in Antalya, on June 4, 2020, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’. Haldun Açıksözlü is released after statement procedures.

37 people are detained in Ankara, 31 people are detained in Izmir on June 4, 2020.

(06/072) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against Ramazan Erçil, former inspector of Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 25 on June 4, 2020. The court sentenced the defendant to 8 years 1 month and 15 days on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, and to 4 years and 2 months on the charge of ‘aggravated fraud’.

(06/073) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on June 4, 2020 and announced that, all open-door events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of June 5, 2020.

(06/074) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 21 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 988 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 4, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,630 and total number of confirmed cases is 167,410 as of June 4, 2020.

On June 4, 2020, Ministry of Interior declared a 48-hour curfew in 14 metropolitan cities and in Zonguldak city, as of 24:00 on June 5, 2020. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, cancelled the curfew on June 5, 2020, by a social media post.
