(06/050) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that 3 HPG militants died in the air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to rural areas of Bitlis on May 31, 2020.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and TKP/ML TİKKO militants in rural areas of Ovacık district of Tunceli on June 2, 2020.

(06/051) People Were Subjected to Police Violence in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that, the police raided a house through the investigation about killing of a police officer in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on May 31, 2020 and committed physical violence against 2 people (Şeyhmus Yılmaz and Menice Yılmaz) in the house and tortured them with police dogs.

It is learned that 2 people went to hospital afterwards, took a report evidencing torture and ill-treatment and made an official complaint.

Menice Yılmaz stated the following: “Grandmother of M. E. C., who is arrested as the suspect, is our landlady. She lives across our door. (…) on May 31, at around 00:30, the police raided our house and the neighbour across, on suspicion that the suspect could be hidden in our houses (…) they broke our door. When I looked at the door I saw three dogs sent inside, I took my children and hid into a room. I closed the door, and stayed there (…) The police officers kept shouting and asked me to open the door. As soon as I opened the door 2 dogs went inside (…) When I was standing in the room, one of the dogs came towards me and attacked me at stomach with his paws (…) I kneeled down and the dog continued to scratch me. When the dogs went towards my children the police officers held their leashes (…) All of these happened in front of my three children at the ages of 7, 9 and 11”.

Şeyhmus Yılmaz stated the following: “As soon as I left the room, I heard them saying ‘hold him, hit him, he is here’ and fell down on my face because of the beats on me. Around 15 or 20 special task force officers attacked me with kicks and punches. They kicked me at the nose, lips and stomach. They beat me with the gunstock of a long barrelled weapon at my right elbow (…) After the police officer went back, they ordered 3 dogs to ‘catch him, attack’ and let them on me. One of the dogs bit my right shoulder when I was on the ground. Another dog bit the back of my left ear (…) The attack of dogs lasted for about 2 or 3 minutes. Nobody intervened and nobody tried to hold them. And then special task force officers took the dogs and left our house”.

Diyarbakır Governorate made a declaration and stated the following: “The house of Şeyhmus Yılmaz and his wife Menice Yılmaz was visited by police, 1 operation dog was taken into the residence proper to the instructions, after Şeyhmus Yılmaz resisted to the operation dog by kicking him, the operation dog acted as a reflex but his trained immediately took him under control; and there is no intentional attack by dogs to the individuals in the house as it is claimed in news reports”.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that letter of Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), to his wife Başak Demirtaş, was censored by Edirne F Type Prison Disciplinary Board.

(06/053) People Were Threatened…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that, poet Gökhan Yavuzel, musicians Ferhat Tunç and Pınar Aydınlar, writer Gülfer Akkaya, HDP Party Assembly member Veli Saçılık and HDP parliamentary members Serpil Kemalbay, Murat Sarısaç, Hüseyin Kaçmaz, Habip Eksik, Nuran İmir, Semra Güzel, Murat Çepni and Hasan Özgüneş were threatened by a social media account “jitem.turkey / KodAdım: Yeşil” with a message “Şewbaş, death will find you”.

(06/054) Journalists Were Threatened by Mayor in Zonguldak…

It is claimed in the news coverage of June 3, 2020 that, Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Zonguldak mayor threatened the journalists who make news reports on him, by saying “If justice does not do what is necessary, I will do it. I will do it for all. Nobody will freely walk on streets”.

(06/055) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declarations of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1303 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 3, 2020 at 13.30 and at 18.00, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(06/056) Police Intervention to a Protest in Düzce…

On June 3, 2020, the police intervened the press declaration of Alev Şahin in order to regain her job from which she was dismissed by a state of emergency decree, in front of Düzce Governorate and detained her. Alev Şahin was released on the same day.

(06/057) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

29 people who were detained in police intervention to the press declaration to protest police violence during Covid-19 pandemic, which was held by several organisations in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on June 2, 2020; are released after statement procedures at the police on June 3, 2020.

(06/058) Investigation Against Poet for ‘Insulting the President’…

It is learned that an investigation was initiated against poet Ahmet Telli, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in a post shared by a social media account with the name of Ahmet Telli, and that he gave his official statement to the police on June 3, 2020.

(06/059) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

13 people including military members on active duty are detained on June 3, 2020, in operations covering 7 cities through a Konya based investigation.

(06/060) Curfew in Bitlis…

Bitlis Governorate made a declaration on June 3, 2020 and announced curfew in 9 villages of central district as of 02:00 on June 3, 2020 until a further notice. Villages under curfew are: Doğruyol, Keklikdüzü, Bölükyazı, Kuşlu, Çayırbaşı, Çadırlı, Dereağzı, Yolcular and Ilıcak.

(06/061) Covid-19 Pandemic…

Ministry of Health declared that 24 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 867 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on June 3, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 4,609 and total number of confirmed cases is 166,422 as of June 3, 2020.
