(04/033) Child Got Injured in Explosion in Diyarbakır…

Yusuf Yıldırak, an 11 years old child who got heavily injured due to explosion of a material he found in rural areas of Serin village of Lice district of Diyarbakır on March 31, 2020; lost his life at Dicle University Hospital on April 3, 2020.

(04/034) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned that 1 engineer (Mazlum Gözenoğlu) died and 2 workers got wounded in an attack of HPG militants to a vehicle carrying workers to a military post construction site in rural areas of Nusaybin district of Mardin on April 3, 2020.

(04/035) Military Operation to North and East Syria…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2020 that 1 soldier (sergeant Ahmet Can Temiz) died in Idlib. Ministry of National Defence did not make a declaration yet, and the date of death is not confirmed.

(04/036) Death Fast in Prison…

It is learned that Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal, lawyers from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) and People’s Law Office, who were on hunger strike in prison since February 4, 2020, turned their strike to death fast as of April 5, 2020. 8 lawyers including Selçuk Kozağaçlı, chair of Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) went on a hunger strike to support demands of Mustafa Koçak, and Grup Yorum band members İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek, and to demand fair trial and cancellation of results of proceedings which came up with unfair trials.

(04/037) Prison Riot in Batman…

It is learned that on April 4, 2020, prisoners in Batman M Type Prison set fire mattresses to protest being excluded by the draft law on penal execution regulations. Batman Public Prosecutor’s Office declared that the fire was put out and there were no casualties. Batman Bar Association confirmed the information on casualties.

Human Rights Association (IHD) Batman co-chair Devran Yıldız stated that they went to prison to get information but they were not allowed to see prisoners.

It is learned from the news reports that 439 prisoners were transferred to Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 4 after the riot.

(04/038) Police Intervention to Funeral of Helin Bölek…

Meral Hır, a member of Grup Yorum music band is detained by the police in front of Idil Cultural Center in Okmeydanı neighbourhood of Istanbul, before the funeral of Helin Bölek on April 4, 2020. Grup Yorum member Helin Bölek, who was on death fast demanding an end to oppression on Grup Yorum and fair trials for its members, lost her life on 288th day of her strike on April 3, 2020.

It is learned that the hearse carrying Helin Bölek’s funeral from the house where she was continuing death fast in Küçükarmutlu neighbourhood of Sarıyer district of Istanbul to Okmeydanı Cemevi (religious setting of Alevis) was stopped by the police and driver of the hearse was detained. It is reported that the hearse was directly sent to Feriköy Cemetery by the police.

It is learned that only families of Helin Bölek and İbrahim Gökçek were allowed to Feriköy Cemetery. The police used pepper spray and pressurized water to intervene people who want to attend funeral and detained 19 people including a child by using physical force. Detained people are: Zeynep Gonca Karakoç, Adalet Karataştan, Eda Kaya, Sevcan Akdoğan, Ercan Işık, Can Bulut, Taşkın Sorucu, Cansu İrem Kalender, Gökhan Uysal, Simge Kaymaz, Aslıhan Burcaklar, Halil Yakut, Hatun Çıplak, Kübra Sünnetçi, Melisa Ayyıldız, Erkan Munar, Eren Yılmaz, Ferdi İşçi, and a child named O (surname unknown).

(04/039) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the sit-in protest after press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1244 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on April 3, 2020 at 13.30 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence. The police intervened the press declaration at 18.00 ad detained 4 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt, Nazan Bozkurt, Merve Demirel and Mahmut Konuk). 4 people are released after being imposed a fine of 3150 Turkish Liras for violating precautions for Covid-19 pandemic.

(04/040) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration for architect Alev Şahin, who was dismissed from her job by a state of emergency decree, in front of Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning building in Ankara on April 3, 2020; and forced 1 person (Mehmet Dersulu) way from the building.

(04/041) Police Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…

The police intervened the press declaration in Izmir on April 5, 2020, which was about Helin Bölek, who was on death fast and lost her life; and about İbrahim Gökçek and Mustafa Koçak who are still on death fast, and detained 3 people (Sinan Yanbal, Hüseyin Sezgin and Sercan Çakır) by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

(04/042) Arrested Journalist in Istanbul…

Journalist Hakan Aygün, who was detained for a social media post (“Ey IBAN edenler”) which criticizes Presidential charity campaign by making a wordplay with reference to a religious phrase, is arrested by the court on the charges of ‘provoking people into enmity and hatred’ and ‘insult’ on April 3, 2020.

  1. Y., owner of social media account “Ankara Kuşu”, who was detained in Ankara on April 2, 2020, and Mesut Aydın, owner of social media account “Türkiye Gerçekleri” who detained in Istanbul on April 3, 2020 and was taken to Ankara are arrested by the court through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Structure” investigations on April 3, 2020.

(04/044) Detained Union Manager in Antep…

DISK Textile Workers’ Union Gaziantep Regional Manager Mehmet Türkmen is detained on April 3, 2020, for his social media post on employees who force to work despite of Covid-19 pandemic. Mehmet Türkmen is released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on the same day.

(04/045) Arrested Lawyer in Mardin…

Lawyer Ali Kahraman who was detained in Mardin on February 29, 2020 and was arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on March 2, 2020, is released from prison upon his lawyers’ appeal on April 3, 2020.

(04/046) Covid-19 Pandemic…

On April 3, 2020, as a part of precautions for Covid-19 pandemic, exit and entrance of vehicles for 31 provinces including 30 metropolitan cities is banned for 15 days; and for citizens under the age of 20, excluding public employees, workers and seasonal agricultural workers, are restricted to leave their houses.

Ministry of Health declared that 69 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,786 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 3, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 76 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 3,135 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 4, 2020.

Ministry of Health declared that 73 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 3,135 new Covid-19 cases were diagnosed on April 5, 2020.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 574 and total number of confirmed cases is 27,1069 as of April 5, 2020.

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) declared that at least 14 workers died due to Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.

(04/047) Labor Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 113 workers including 2 children, 11 women, and 6 refugees died while working in March 2020.
